Alright nerds, let's get a rolecall.

Who's going to be in preview weekend this weekend?

Doesn't look that great. My prediction: once the hype dies down, it will go the way of Age of Conan.

I don't think this will happen. AOC had a self-destructive dev team who completely went off the deep end with post-launch updates and screwed up the small semblence of polished gameplay that had released. I played WOW's beta, AOC's beta, Vanguard's beta (and several moer). During this phase in its beta, WAR is infinitely more polished than AOC was. Hell, it's more polished than AOC is now. It also has way more end-game content than WOW did at release. It's not going to be a WOW killer, but it's going to do fine. And it's really fucking fun.

I agree. The gameplay videos look great, but honestly... nothing really comes near WoW's tried and tested MMO formula.

I was considering playing but I don't think I will. I'm too busy at work and with school. I really don't know how to play these games casually.

Btw, did they really instance pvp zones? That's the absolute gayest thing they could do. Instancing destroys MMOs imo.

Yes, and no. There are instanced PvP encounters, but there's also tons of overworld PvP. You gain experience and renown through killing players. Generally, I queue up for a scenario (basically a battleground) and then do overworld PvP while I'm waiting. When you finish a scenario, it plops you right back where you were.

Hah--I'll be in the preview this weekend. Just finished the download. I'm optimistic. I don't have much time to play (as opposed to DAOC days), so I'm happy to see that it looks like casuals will still be relatively competitive. WAR for sure won't end up like AoC--whew was that a mess.

Isn't that backwards? Shouldn't overworld pvp be the focus? Are there any full-pvp servers with no instancing? I hate the idea that people can hide in a different instance.

Us lesser nerds will be playing Left 4 Dead this weekend.

You playing on PC? Might just have to download the demo so we can get this co-op going.

I missed this event but frm the videos it looks to me exactly like DAOC with slightly different avatars.
What is new about WH?

warhammer online is a total meh MMO... hopefully darkfall can actually step up (tho insider gossip is that they're very late in their cycle and have nothing to show for it).
