On a local TGIFriday's online questionnaire:

"Question of the week"

What song would capture your experience in TGIF?

No, no. It was an online questionnaire, someone forwarded me the link, and it was a slow day at work.... I stopped eating at our local TGIF franchise more than 10 years ago when they served me rancid burger meat, twice. and my answer was Tom Petty's "Don't Come Around Here No More"

They have one here in CR. Actually, there's a funny story about it. About 15-20 years ago, a local man who clearly had recently traveled to the US decided to copy TGIFriday's brick by brick. To skip the franchise fees he decided to name the place just "Friday's" but kept the red/white stripe uniforms, tacky roadside crap on the walls, big beer selection, similar menu, etc. No American would doubt its legitimacy. A few years went by and the "real" TGIFriday's decided to open a franchise. They saw their copycat competitor and took him to court. The punchline is that the "real" TGIF lost their case. Why? The judge claimed that Friday's (the fake) was not only named differently but was also established in this country before the franchise and therefore couldn't be held liable as a copycat. To this day both restaurants still exist although TGIFriday's is located in the American community side of town right next to Tony Roma's. Therefore, my song choice would be Marvin Gaye's, "ain't nothing like the real thing."

Not that it's saying much but Friday's food is awful. I once ordered a turkey sandwich that included three slices of deli turkey meat. Three.

They've been here since the early 90s. Chili's, Outback, Tony Roma's and Hooters are here too.

Looks like we've been equally invaded.
