Glute Strain...Help!

Thread Starter
Sunday I had a soccer tourney in Chinatown and didn't notice until the next morning a pretty painful Glute strain on the right side. I took a day off of running (did 6 miles on a bike at the gym instead as the glute isn't really used on the bike) and was hoping to run today. It still hurts like a bitch. What can I do? How long do glutes take to mend? Will stretching it help? I iced it for 30 minutes last night. I hope I won't be shelved from my runs all week, but if thats what needs to be, I'll rest it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hydration, Ibuprofen, Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. Rest being the most important component.

Sounds about right to me.

They're both NSAIDs that do more or less the same thing.

It really doesn't matter.

Here we go again. He's much more likely to have Ibuprofen than most other NSAIDs. Out of the three most common NSAIDs (aspirin, ibuprofen, paracetamol), ibuprofen is clearly better for soft tissue injury. You just really like one-upping people, and that's what this is about. My ignore list is close to being utilized for the very first time.

redgrail, I'm 99% sure another SF member has been using that avatar for a while. Time to change?

Didn't realize. Who? I'll look for a new one later.

Paracetamol, otherwise known as acetaminophen, is not an NSAID.

Also, lots of people have naproxen which is what Aleve is. I'd guess that someone is just as likely to have any one of those pain meds.

Correct. Curse of the fast reply.

Acetominophen isn't an NSAID and aspirin isn't particularly useful as one either.

And what does the fact that he's more likely to have Ibuprofen (which is argumentative anyway) make it more potent, effective, and safe than Naproxen?

Naproxen is generally recommended more by doctors. It just lasts longer and it generally more potent.

Ibuprofen works too.

They both fuck up protein synthesis.

No, I'm trying to give good advice. Why should you care if someone disagrees with you? Instead of thinking about the subject, you read my username and get your panties in a bunch. Grow up.

Wow, didn't realize you're an expert on medication too dude. You're like a jackass of all trades.

To add something constructive to this thread, you could also try some Traumeel. It's a homeopathic medication for muscular pain and sports injuries.
