FS: HERMES TIE- The Hong Kong Jockey Club - Never worn

A good friend is (almost) as passionate about his clothes as me. He knows that I "dabble" in online sales, and every now and then he'll ask me to list something for him. In the past it's mostly been items such as a pair of Limited Edition Gucci Sneakers, or several pairs of Prada hiking boots. But this time when he called and asked me to stop by, he said that he had something "special"... I think he was right. He told me that he had literally forgotten about this tie, which until now had been sitting in its original box on a shelf in his bedroom closet. Undisturbed. Because of the unique nature and condition of the tie I decided to go straight to ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260276326567 The photos speak for themselves... Please contact me if you have any questions. Good luck with your bidding! Dennis

If he's only asking $65 for it - I'll snap it up...

Thanks for the bump Mike. But just to clarify... the bidding is starting at $65. Dennis

I know it is a Hermes tie and that is supposed to mean greatness but I swear I can go to the local Ben Silvers and pick out 300 different ties that are better looking than any Hermes I've ever come across and are still extremely high quality WHILE saving a ton of money. I don't get this Hermes crap this board supposedly is about look and quality and not names but to me Hermes gets by on its supposedly "exclusivity" and name and not looks

I completely understand what you are saying. I always found Hermes a bit on the ugly side. I get the exclusivity of it, but I still don't really get it.

Although this one, is possibly the only one I've ever seen that catches my eye. It actually has something going for it. Good luck with the sale!

yeah jbm this one isn't bad but the colors still don't do it for me. There's many great great tie makers out there but I don't see Hermes as one of them.

KBW- If you want to trash-talk Hermes ties, that's up to you. But do it in your own thread as a topic in Mens Clothing, and please be so kind as to keep your negative comments to yourself when you're in my sales thread! Since joining the SF I've commented about this many times, and as often as I see it happen it still never fails to amaze me... I've been a member, as well as moderator, in over 1/2 dozen forums for nearly 10 years. And this sort of inconsiderate crap would not be tolerated in any other forum's classifieds! Apparently you don't believe that courtesy has anything to do with style. Dennis

Well, I have humble disagreements.....with both.
There is no reason to downplay something for sale or post negative comments about an article for sale when your opinion isnt asked for..... but then this is not purely a for sale thread as its more like an announcement of a sale on ebay (a public auction site) rather than offering it directly to SF members....so i donno.

Regards.

It may not be a B&S sale...per se. But it's still my thread...and I'm the one who's trying to sell something. If I wanted this to be a "discussion" thread I would not have posted it in the B&S! And I would have posted under the title "What do you think about this tie?" Regardless, I have no doubt that my intentions are obvious, and it's damned inconsiderate for anyone to come into another person's thread and say anything that could potentially sabotage a sale.

don't talk to me about consideration....this thread is only a big whoring out of an ebay auction...this section of the forum is here to get members good deals or for people to unload things that they no longer need/want or fits not to try to draw attention to your listing to try to drive up the auction price. If anything moderators should delete this thread due to your "sale" not fitting this forum's purpose. As you can see by my post history I've never commented negatively to any other listing.

You can use any excuse you like...but it was still inconsiderate. And it was against the rules. Copied from the posted B&S rules: Posting in someone else's thread to say the equivalent of "that's a ripoff, I saw those for less than that, blah blah" is not acceptable. Buyers here are very well informed and if it's not a good deal they won't buy it. They have a right to ask any price they want, even an unreasonable one, and you have the right not to pay it.

I must have missed that... Perhaps you could show me where it says that posting links to e-bay is not in the spirit of the B&S. If members couldn't post links to ebay, that would mean that there are a whole lot of people in the B&S breaking that rule...on a very regular basis.

Wow, this thread got nasty real quick. I like the tie

It's a nice tie. KBW should calm down: he's behaving like a pork chop, as we say down this way...

Nice tie. KBW should be banned.
