What Color Shoes with Chocolate Pants / Slacks

Hi all. I'm new to this site and what I've seen so far is great. You all seem very knowledgable in teh world of fashin/design. Thus, I have a question I'm hoping you can answer.

I just purchased my first pair of chocolate pants/slacks. I mainly plan on wearing them mainly to work (a casual work environment). What color shoes will look best with chocolate pants? Light brown? Dark brown? Black? Or, is it a personal preference?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I like black best for chocolate pants, but I also think light brown would look good.

Dark Brown or Light Brown...maybe navy depending on the jacket and shirt.

i personally wouldnt wear black with them.

Time for some of those gay band-aid colored shoes.

Most of the suggestions are good, also olive could work if you're feeling abeit adventurous.

Light browns such as Allen Edmonds' brandy work well for me.

First pair is always black. If brown IMO they should darker than the pants.

But they dont hate black shoes, they just wear them where appropriate.

+1 although I do wear black with navy pants about 50% of the time.

With brown, I always avoid black shoes though.

I do not do much with earth tones - no large expanses (jacket, shirt, or slacks) of anything beyond British tan. For this I would recommend Cordovan #8, burgundy, or some other earth tone. I do not much fancy black and brown together.

Thank you for all of your comments so far. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I'm any better off yet...

It almost seemst that it's more personal choice/preference than anything. Some say black are okay, others say no way; some say the shoe should be a darker brown than the slacks; others say any shade of brown would be good.

So there really aren't any "rules" for black and brown together? And personal rules-of-thumb don't count.

Not trying to come off rude, so hope I'm not; just not sure what to take away.

Thanks again.
