Anyone familiar with Jaguar XK8?

Hi,

I'm thinking of trading my '04 CL500 for a Jaguar XK8. I drove the latter yesterday but was shocked at how little the driver's seat back can recline. This made for a really uncomfortable driving position. I asked the salesperson who had no clue about this. Anyone here experience this also?

Id say that is a trade down ... Personaly Id rather have a AMV. If you decide to get a Jag, arden may be of asistance to iron out the quirks...

Yes you're probably right about the trade down. I would also prefer an AM, however in Ireland a 06 Vantage would cost US$70K more than a 06 XK. 2007 CL500s (new style) are only just coming on the second hand market now but are still averaging the equivalent of US$248K (about 160KEuros). By way of comparison a 2007 in the US costs on average US$92K. We have an extra tax here called VRT (vehicle registration tax) which basically adds up to 40% of the market value of the car onto the retail price. My '04 cost the equivalent of US$153K when I bought it two years ago.

Our tax sit Non EU. is based on ccm, weight & bhp. total on average 120% so the differnces between tthe two even out a bitt ... but if i look at this: https://approved.astonmartin.com/en-...&maxm=&maxp=&d= we are 130% above.

True, the Xk8 is more of a competitor to the SL series. BY all accounts the Vantage is one of my favorite (dream) cars, but I was somewhat suprised to see the Top Gear video clip of the XKR outhandling the Vantage, who would have guessed.

I had an 06 cl500, and I loved it. My gf at the time had an 03 or 04 xkr; which is an xk8 but supercharged. It was a fun, zippy car; but I'd take the Cl any day. The jag is really a 2 seater, it's got a lot of maintenance issues from what i hear, and there are better cars for the money.

If you want a two door seater for that price range a 911 will beat out the jaguar in build quality and driving joy any day. If you want to be different than everyone else that is another story.

I agree. The 911 is full of thrills.
