We've been very lucky to have Greenwald, Lon Simmons, Joe Morgan, Greg Papa and Jon Miller on a regular basis over the years. All of them are top notch.

+1 and, at a time when we had teams that were competitive...

If you want to hate someone hate Dick Vitale and his Duke love. Good grief.

So do I. He seems like a genuinely nice, albeit overly dramatic, guy.

Joe Buck, on the other hand, just screams "douchebag", from hundreds of feet away.

I was about to post that link. I can't help but admire Joe Morgan for being the player that he was. He was truly awesome. However, there's not denying that he's a moron. I remember hearing him on an ESPN broadcast complaining about Billy Beane having the gaul to "write" Moneyball - this was literally 5 or 6 years after the book had been published. WTF?

I like Costas more or less. He's too much of a traditionalist (whatever that means) and he has his blind spots, but he's at least competent and well informed.

Correct on both counts. Of course, the CBC in its (usual) idiocy, got rid. There was such a huge, national outcry, the twats had to bring him back.

As for Costas, he's said and done some seriously idiotic things over the years. Wearing huge Arctic gloves during the last game in the Expos/Dodgers series was one -- he could not get over that a Canadian team was on the verge of getting into a World Series. He was a silly little twit. Then, of course, the magnificent Blue Jays won two!!!

That said, I've grown to admire his interview skills over the last twenty years. Quite excellent.

I remember going to the last series of the 1982 season against the Dodgers, and watching the Giant's get killed, and their season ended, in the first two games. In the third Morgan hit a home run off Terry Foster to end the Dodger's hopes. It was a great moment in Giant's baseball.

I watched that on television. An early introduction to the disappointments life would hold.

As I type this I'm listening to Vin Scully broadcast the Dodger-Brewer game. I lead a charmed life, announcer-wise.

Oi. How I hate Dick Vitale. Baaaaaabyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!

My all-time least favorite sports announcers are probably

1) Dickie V
2) Bill Walton (love his writing and his humor; hate his gushing that everything we've just seen is the greatest in history)
3) Costas

In truth, Costas isn't even close to the other two.
