I bought a RTW Canali suit from Holt Renfrew. The sales person whom I dealt with came to me and said, why buy RTW? Why not do MTM Armani suit etc ..

I told him that Armani MTM is nice but I want canvased suits. He said Armani collezioni is canvased and fabric floats over lining BS. I told him Armani does not have canvas front. He kept saying it does, and he asked me to feel his armani sports coat that he was wearing. Sice he insisted, I did my trusty pinch test and it was fused. I tolded him it is fused. He kept saying no its canvased etc.. and he ended up saying sh.t like Armani fabric floats and does not need heavy canvase etc..

To top it off, as he walks away, he looks at me and said I will have problem with my new Canali suit that to be altered. WTF? Should I have called a manager and striaghten the issue?

If the store ever screw up alteration or/and surgent cuffs, can I ask for a full refund?

Thanks.

His suggestion was that he was intentionally going to sabotage your alterations?

who knows.. But I felt rediculous. Should I have take the suit to different tailor just to be safe? But then the alteration fee will cost more

Do you have to pay anything for alteration fees at Holt?
I don't pay such fees at Harry Rosen.

That salesman is either ignorant or deceptive. Either way, I agree with staying away from that H-R.
I don't think your alterations are going to be intentionally done wrong, since it would be the store tailor's reputation on the line. However, if they did do a bad job on the alterations, and couldn't or wouldn't fix it, I wouldn't hesitate to ask for a full refund.

BTW, Harry Rosen's free lifetime alterations and repairs are a nice incentive. Their return policy is also pretty good.

i agree with you guys, I much prefer harry over holt, but the suit i bought was very cute and it was on 40% sale. I could not find the same suit at Harry.

There was alteration fee which shocked me. Its because the item was on sale. Like I said, this is the last time i am shoppin at holt.

Holt Renfrew is trendy gold digger trash. Harry will never do you wrong. This guys really know what they're doing. Holt is full of college kids who really don't know much other than what GQ is telling them.

I've never bought a suit at H-R; may I ask how much they charge for alterations? Surely no more than a good alteration place elsewhere?

Anyways, congratulations on finding a good suit on sale.

this is exactly the type of thing that I would get on the phone about - try to get the country sales manager on the line and tell him the story.

I'd post a letter to head of dept., head of store, etc, posthaste.

The alteration fee came up to be $149 + TAX
The alterations:
Jacket:
Sleeve shortening
Jacket waist seams.
Squaring shoulders.
Surgernt cuffs.
Pants:
shrinking Waist - taking in 4 inches.
tigh seams.
length - no cuffs

The tailor told me it was discounted price. If I picked up suits at 50% off, I would have paid more on alteration. I never have bought suits on sales @ harry so I do not know how much harry would charge for alteration for suits on sale.

I know this lady tailor who is very skill full, but would cost a lot more if I bring her the suit, but at least I know the job will be done right.

Should I take the suit back to her or should I leave it with H-R? What do you think guys?

Hmmm, that is a lot of alterations to be done, so I think $149 is reasonable. Tough call on who to get to do the alterations; I don't know what to recommend. If you have H-R do it and there's a problem, you'll probably be able to return the suit. On the other hand, if you really trust your lady tailor to do a good job, then I think paying the extra cost is worth it.

I believe Harry Rosen does charge a fee for alterations for suits bought on sale for 50% off or greater.
