I broke out the Pappy 20 for my best friend's engagement. I poured him and I each a few fingers. He downed it, one gulp. I almost hit him.

^ You're pretty much summed life up right there.  I'll drink to that.

Only thing worse is what a guy will say to a girl about that which he knows nothing!

I was at PX in Alexandria listening to some guy, in response to a question from his date about what Mezcal was, respond that it was a Mexican hallucinogenic spirit distilled from mescaline, and that it had been banned from importation into the U.S. for years. Where did he pull that mismash of absinthe, peyote, and tequila, from?

Gah. But I am not surprised. Jack Rose has a certain notoriety amongst that set somehow, which is sad considering how much great whisky they have. Imagine how much of it is wasted there by poseurs.  I struggled to find my place in DC, though, so I have something of a jaundiced eye. I did always like going to Adams Morgan late Friday and Saturday nights -- great photography opportunities near the Madame's Organ and the Heaven and Hell club. Crazy place. Lots of puking. Jumbo slice wasn't half bad though.

I might try that if someone ever asks me what Mezcal is. That's a good explanation that sounds almost believable to the people that don't know any better.

Hmm . . . I would have thought that Jack Rose was relatively douchebro free. You need to go to Dram and Grain in the basement instead. But there you have another category of annoying: the Drink Instagrammer. smile.gif

What, seriously? I just did not love D.C.. Dram & Grain didn't exist when I was in town. If any of you guys are further north sometime you should give me a shout.

Fortunately they seem to stick to the widely known stuff, like Pappy, Johnny Walker Blue, etc. Pappy is so ludicrously expensive, rather have them drinking that than some of rare scotches they have.

I had the last dram out of a bottle of Port Ellen 1982 they had there. I honestly felt a little bad about it.

They did shots. Then all raved about how amazing it was.

#dickswing

I was lucky to find a Bowmore Cask Strength at one of my little locals hidden in the back, it was a Jack Rose selection. Fantastic pour, AND the char that was in the bottle was freaking cool as shit.

#guiltyascharged though it's usually from my couch in front of a tv.

Ahh, Adams Morgan. The first - and one of the last - times I got truly blind drunk was at Madam's Organ when some friends took me out for my 21st.

+10000

That thread was hilarious. I actually remember reading the first 2-3 posts but then never bothered to keep up with it. I sort of wish I did now.

That Farmers Insurance thread delivers.

That makes sense. And no, don't feel bad about drinking the Port Ellen -- I did, once, and do not feel at all bad about it. I enjoyed the heck out of it and felt very privileged for the opportunity!

That's a crazy article (Morgenthaller really beats him up), and even more a crazy coincidence. I wonder if the guy I heard heard that idiot say that on TV? Or is the Mezcal/mescaline just too close for people to comprehend any other answer?
