Nor do the excessive use of expletives.

Whoever thought that inserting **** into every conceivable sentence made for amusement should be shot. I will do it myself.

I have to admit I thought Stepbrothers was silly fun, but it was a pretty bad movie.

Superbad however was a truly great movie. It pulled off that rarest of feats: portraying adolescence accurately and charmingly without being cheesy and saccharine. IMO it is one of the finest coming-of-age/ high school films ever made.

I have similar high hopes for Pineapple express.

(My point is basically that you shouldn't lump these together)

I was really excited to see Step Brothers but being me promptly forgot about it once it opened and the constant TV spots stopped. I may see Pineapple express this weekend, though.

Superbad was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, complete brilliance.

Stepbrothers was good, a lot better than I thought it'd be and had a lot of genuine laughs in it

another sleeper was Forgetting Sarah Marshall, godamn that was a funny movie

I cant wait for Pineapple Express and Year One.

I'm a firm believer that some "creatives" only have one or two _____ (songs, movies, paintings etc) in them and they can make a good career recycling those one or two good ideas.

Apatow is one of them probably. Guy Ritchie is DEFINITELY one of them (just stick to remaking Snatch in various incarnations). As a band, Social Distortion is also in this ilk (Mike Ness basically writes 3 songs over and over again with good result)

I dont mind it. I would encourage it. Not everyone has range, and some creatives are at their best within >this much< range. Of course at some point they usually feel they are more talented than they actually are and try to broaden their range, usually with disastrous results, and go back to what they do best.

GS- I understand where you're coming from and agree. But Freaks and Geeks was a funny, heartbreaking, introspective, and endearing all at the same time. I think it really was a great show. His movies all seem to be the same thing. They're good for some good lines and generally solid happy go lucky comedies, but the "real movie" parts seem so secondary, less thought out and not executed like Freaks and Geeks. I think he has it in him, but his formula is a huge cash cow at the moment.

Had potential. Didn't live up to it.

Agreed. Apatow and his partner were my favorite characters. Crazy cops.

Reminded me of Super Troopers. That was some funny **** meow.
