Olive suit- what shoes?

Not a complicated question, just wondering what color of shoes should be worn with a dark olive green suit. This is for a professional setting so the suggestions should be at least somewhat conservative.

Brown or burgundy. Black, never. Darker shades are more conservative, of course.

Hi, New on the forums, couldn't help but respond.

It all depends, I think, on the precise shade of olive. An olive mingled with brown is quite a different beast from an olive mixed with gray.

That said, in all cases, I think brown shoes can be fantastic, but especially brown suedes.

As olive is a little less formal than other suit colors, the brown suede balances it nicely, and can balance the cool intensity of the green, as green doesn't seem to be a color that shines.

Oh, I forgot, Styleforum also just had a contest on "green" which could provide some very helpful pictures. I especially recommend le.gentleman's post on page 13, and iammatt's finalist-finishing dark green slacks (cords, perhaps?) with dark brown shoes. Very nice

I think tan would look very nice as well as dark brown or cordovan.

I'm surprised to read this. Why not black with olive? Seems like it would work.

I really hate the look of earth toned suits with black shoes, except for a darkish brown, which I unaccountably love. But olive with black looks worse than rookie-mistake-wrong to me. It looks bureaucrat-wrong.

Hrm. I have a pair or two of olive trousers and I have often paired them with black shoes and belt. I've never quite thought the shades of brown shoes I own worked all that well with the olive, but I'll have to give it another thought now... I guess I'm a bureaucrat deep down.

Pimento.

Whiskey shell, chestnut or just med brown. Goto shoes for me with olive suits. Cordovan is okay but not as good as brown. Black-NEVER.

No shoes because you shouldn't be wearing an olive suit.
