Does anyone use their wedding china/crystal stemware?q - Page 2

Yes, we use ours, though not all the time. Tom Selleck once talked about having nice things and feeling a bit apprehensive about using/consuming them, saying he thought it was the lower middle class child in him. I can see his point. Still, why have it if it gets used once a year? If China were clothing, many people would have thrown theirs out after a few years of marriage for lack of use.

We use our crystal and china every night. In fact, other than beer mugs, I don't think we have anything else from which to drink. In ten years we have not yet broken a glass, but I fear that mentioning this is not a good thing.

We use everything, though because we were moving abroad right after our wedding we asked for little of this type of stuff.

On breakage, my wife just bought me some riedel cocktail glasses that serve double duty as a coupe:

And one was broken within a month.

We use ours hardly ever. Holidays, and when we have guests, and not always even then.

I hear that. Part of my reluctance to use it is that we received it from someone (not really ours) and we're just holding on to it for future generations to shlep around and fear for its breakage.

When guests come around we break out the nice everyday china. Sometimes.

Then again, brisket and ribs seem out of place with a dainty Wedgwood pattern.

We got the Opal Innocence pattern by Lenox. It's pretty simple with a discreet decorative pattern near the edge and with a platinum rim.

Is your crystal made from that fancy clear metal? How could it not break?

We use our china, didn't get stemware. Personally, I'd use the china more. What good does it do sitting in a cabinet?

It's nice to have for special occasions, but for us, it's more trouble than it's worth to use regularly.

We use the china a few times a year. It has a gold rim (no other decor), and we really don't feel like subjecting it to the dishwaher.

The crystal we still have, and while I like the Orrefors Prelude, our tastes have changed a bit and so it doesn't come from the cabinet as much as some others that have a better shape.

The good silver we got is easily accessible, but gets used only with the china, if that often.

If you want heirlooms, that's great stuff to ask for. If you're just setting up housekeeping, go to Williams-Sonoma.

We use our china and crystal on the holidays and rarely beyond that. We don't have a china cabinet in the dining room yet. If we did I might pull them out more often. Right now it is a pain to pull everything out of the closet in the basement where they are stored and to put them back when they are finished. We too have the Orrefors Prelude. We use them on the holidays when the whole family is over and never any other time.

We use them regularly, for dinner parties and holidays. In fact, we are hosting a couple for lunch today, and even though we'll be eating al fresco poolside, we will still use it. Our china no doubt shouldn't go in the dishwasher, but we put it in anyway.

One thing I do advise -- don't bother with white wine glasses in your crystal set. We have 12 and virtually never use them. Get the water goblets instead, and use them for red wine and the red wine glasses for white wine.
