Do you have to eat something in the morning to make our breath better?

I wake up, brush my teeth and tongue very well and use mouthwash but my tongue and breath never feel 'fresh'. I feel like I have to eat something in order for my mouth to not feel dirty.

Anyone else know what I am talking about? I'm not 100% crazy...

I know what you mean! I think that eating helps to get everything moving, I usually try to clean after having a bite to eat.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Some water and a slice of ginger helps.

It's like the water seal trap on a sink.

What creates morning breath?

- Sulfur compounds released from bacteria in your mouth and throat create morning breath.

5 Quick Tips

1. Keep your mouth clean. Brush and floss twice a day. It helps just before you go to bed to brush not only your teeth with a soft tooth brush, but also the roof of your mouth and tongue.

2. Clean your tongue! Bacteria on your tongue can contribute to less-than-fresh breath.

3. Wet your whistle. A dry mouth can quickly cause bad breath.

4. Rinse. If nothing else, at least rinse your mouth with plain water!

5. Munch on parsley. The scent of this herb can help cover up offending oral odor.

You can test yourself for halitosis. Good luck!

I try drinking 3 glasses of water before you do anything in the morning but I really don't have that problem.

When you sleep at night, your stomach slows down so if you have food in your stomach, it'll just sit there. When you wake the next morning, gases from your stomach escape in small amounts which contribute to that unfresh breath. That's why drinking liquids, or having a meal helps your stomach clear the old contents and the curious odours along with it. That might help explain a part of that morning breath. Believe it or not!

I recently read an article which suggested that 16 oz. of cold water in the morning increases your metabolism by 20-30% for as long as 4 hours. If it helps with your breath and your health, its a good habit to develop.

i highy recommend "smart mouth". it is mouthwas, but your mouth always feels fresh. it takes full effect in about 1 to 2 weeks. i swear by it as do all my friends. give it a try!
