kaliedescape home theater

I'm doing some remodelling and had a home audiovisual company come by and give me some quotes to upgrade my AV system which is about 12 years old.

They offered different pricepoints with ability to store audio/video and stream them throughout the house. The mid level 'gadgetry' is from Escient and the higher level drives,etc are from a company called kaliedescape with a 2X to 3X difference in price.

Anyone have any experience with kaliedescape?

I think you can save yourself a lot of money if you get an XBox...

I use an HTPC with media center. you can use media center extenders to hook up every TV/stereo in the house if you want.

You could build a multi-terabyte server to store all your DVDs. I think windows home server would work for this as a platform.

That company sells overpriced, glorified HTPCs. Just like everyone else said, build an HTPC with lots of storage. You'll save a ton of money and have something that is much more useful.

Yeah, that sort of thing isn't hard. Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 will both handle it nicely. The real problem will be ripping all of your DVDs/CDs.
