I actually opened this thread solely because it's a jazz thread, and I saw that you had posted in it. I have to say, I'm a little disappointed. I was really hoping your contempt for the genre would produce some solid Kunk smart assery, but I was really let down.

If this Blakey/Roach/Jones drum solo battle can't get you stirring, your life is empty.

Yesterday I received a old Zoot Sims MFSL CD and he plays with Hank Jones, Louis Bellson, etc. Mighty fine jazz music.

Most of the really good ones have been mentioned. I'll add Thelonious Monk, Live At The It Club.

The recordings of guitarist Charlie Christian jamming after hours at Minton's Playhouse in Harlem with Kenny Clarke on drums and Thelonious Monk on piano, circa 1941 - the quality of the recordings is poor and have been repackaged several times, but it's a fascinating glimps into the birth of modern jazz.

I am deeply biased against the sound of acoustic guitars because I immediately associate them with hippies sitting around a campfire, smoking weed, talking like idiots, and it just stirs feelings of anger and hate in me. Die hippie scum!@#

The Mosaic box is great.

The Hank Jones Live at Birdland recordings on the 88s label are incredible. All the Hank Jones SACDs in fact.

Since no one mentioned it, how about Ella Fitzgerald's Berlin album? (please don't shoot me for that one)
