I have a pair of beautifully brogued, dark brown E. Green shoes. They will soon need new soles. I know all the local shoe repair stores and they're not up to the job. They're RTW, bought at Neiman-Marcus on sale a few years ago. No idea what I paid but I am sure they were really inexpensive for Green shoes, maybe below or a little above $200. I'd love to ship them to the factory but considering what I paid it's hard to justify the cost, which is 120 British pounds plus shipping to the UK and back. Here's what E. Green wrote me: "We replace completely the soles and heels of the shoes , put in new laces and clean the uppers. This service costs £120 tax free plus shipping. This takes about 8 weeks, if you do return the shoes please mark the parcel "shoes returned for repair" to our factory at Edward Green and Co The Chelsea Workshops 74 / 76 Cowper St Northampton England NN1 3QR" Sounds like you don't even get recrafting for that price, but even if you did, it's steep relative to what I paid for these RTW shoes. Are there other alternatives that I won't be sorry about? Send them to Alden or Allen-Edmonds? Mail them to Jim's Shoe Repair in NY? Any better alternative?
