Thread Starter
I recently joined the forum - so apologies if this thread already exists - my hair is starting to thin and am seeking recommendations for best thickening shampoo/conditioner.

Thanks in advance.

The most popular thickening stuff: Aveda Pure Abundance Jasons thin to thick Vive Pro thickening shampoo (some say you need to use it for a week for full effect) If you have enough hair still, American Crew Fiber can look pretty cool. Also, Fudge Hair Gum can do a little thickening and has some hold. Hair spray can help because it not only can do some thickening, but can make your hair act thicker by holding wispy hair from flying around. The Aveda and Jasons offer thickening hair sprays. Dying your hair can help thicken it because it will darken some of the tiny hair that are otherwise unseen. Finally, there's Topik hair fibers. Search these forums for shampoo: http://www.hairsite.com/hair-loss/de...iew-forum.html http://regrowth.com/hairloss-forums/ http://www.hairlosstalk.com/interact/viewforum.php?f=48 As far as hair loss treatments, the "big three" treatments are: Minoxidil, Propecia, Nizoral.

Propecia. And get on it quick.

You can also use the shampoo nizoral. That's pretty much a staple in a hairloss regimen. Or you can google "hair zix".

Don't bother with minoxidil (rogaine) though. All the hair that you grow with it is entirely dependant on the minoxidil, and will pretty much instantly fall out if you stop using it. Plus people report getting extra body hair, puffy eyes, and a bloated face while using it.

I have wrestled with this problem for quite some time. My conclusion is that anything I do to camouflage or cover the thinning hair will not look good.
I now embrace the way my hair looks. Get a really good haircut from a top pro who knows what they're doing. Use good products. Wash regularly. Just comb it the way you always have.
My role model for hair is Tim Gunn - my hair is pretty much like his, not quite as grey.

I never thought I be having this problem but it is official for me, my hair is thinning at the top / top rear. My wife had been suspecting it past year on me and thought it was just jow I was styling my hair with gel but now we both can notice the thinning and its frustrating.

My advice being a hairstylist. Use the rogaine foam and get a shorter haircut. For a hair product try a tiny bit of hair resort by Kevin Murphy. Gives your hair a similar feeling like being at the beach.

What does that mean?

Ever get out of the water when you are at the beach and your hair feels like it has thickened up a bit? As long as you apply the product correctly you'll get a similar feeling, minus the salt flakes of course.

Get a good haircut! You can absolutely still get laid if you eventually go bald. It's all about attitude bud, hang in there!

Thinning hair can be a result of diet. Have you moved into a new area and thus drinking different water? Have you changed your diet? Perhaps your not getting enough protein in your diet. My suggestion is to get a complete checkup with some blood work. I'm not a physician but many people with thinning hair take zinc supplements because a lack of zinc in your system causes hair to fall out which makes your hair feel thinner.

+1 to all the comments on cutting it short & keeping it that way. Some guys just buy a clipper and buzz it themselves, I don't like to do that but hit the barber every 2 to 3 weeks. And as for all those supposed treatments, as a (very bald) friend once put it, "the before pictures look so much better than the after pictures, isn't that the point of those ads?"

I'll second what fantastic.poison said about "makepeacewithyourgenetics" on the second post.

I was hassling for two years with losing my hair until I decided I had enough of being a marketer's guinea pig.

If you're losing your hair due to male pattern baldness, it's a battle you will not win. You can fight it to a stalemate, but whether you feel it's worth the effort and possible consequences is up to you. I didn't.

My suggestion is try shaving your head one time. If you don't die of embarrassment and humiliation within the first few days, you'll get used to it and it'll become a look for you. If you really don't like it, you can go back to all the treatments, etc., but just try it one time.

If you lose all your confidence b/c you don't have hair anymore, then you never had any confidence to begin with.

hi, Ok so my issue is that my hair line has receded in the past 2-3 years and i think my hair is starting to thin abit. I am by no means close to balding nor could you tell that i would even be thinking about losing hair if you looked at me. But i can def tell that my hair line has receded and that my hair has thinned abit in the front. My lifestyle and diet are both healthy. ALl my uncles have hair on my moms side but their hairlines have significantly receded.

So should i be looking into Propecia and Minoxidil to combat the thinning as early as possible?????? or should i just use a better shampoo and conditioner than garnier fructese. haha. My friend told me that his doctor said that sometimes males go through a phase in which their hairline recedes for abit and then it stops receding. ANy suggestions and comments?

ALso Which shampoo's do you use? My hair is also very thick and frizzy so i use a type of gel call "glued" or something that is very bad for your hair because it dries it out, but its the only way i can tame my hair. I do use palmade mixed with this gel but palmade alone will not hold my hair the way i want it. when it gets longer. Any suggestion on firm hold gel products too that are not harmful to hair?

Thanks

Propecia probably is a good idea, but you first should see a doctor with expertise in hair. Hair loss tends to occur in fits and starts - the reference might be to the so-called maturing hairline, which isn't a good sign for keeping the rest of one's hair. Nizoral as part of your shampoo regimen is a good option, too.

There's more information in the following good article, claims the unbiased source
