Wine pairings with Chocolate Cake - Page 3

Southbrook Vineyards' Framboise is an award winner and based in Ontario Canada- I can get it here in the UK via the web or from wine fairs. Their own website doesn't ship to the US but someone must do.

I have had Cassis Briottet which was nice enough, so their other flavours like Framboise are probably pretty good. I don't know where you'd look for it in NYC other than Google.

Here it's much easier to get Marie Brizard's liqueurs (e.g. also crème de menthe, crème de cassis) - I also see them at airports going to / from Europe - but in the last couple of years I have stuck with Southbrook, who also do a good Ice Wine so I can order a few bottles at a time.

What I just had a couple days ago, and would recommend for this situation, is a Brachetto D'Aqui. It's essentially a sparkling red, quite sweet, low alcohol (~7%), tastes like berries (raspberries mostly with some strawberries and cassis depending on the vintner). All in all, I think it woud be perfect. The sweetness would match the cake, the lightness of the bubbles and low alcohol would cut through the richness of the cake, and the flavour of berries matches with chocolate.

Me personally i think Wine fits perfectly with Chocolate Cake! Especially fine bordeaux wine! I never thought that red wine will fit chocolate as for me the sweet chocolate tast would kill the fine wine tast.
But when one a friend of mine served after dinner chocolate cake and red wine I thought i had to try it and i really was fastinated!!!
Everybody should try that once!!!

+1 Banfi Rosa Regale is probably the easiest Brachetto D'Aqui to find. It works really well with chocolate, is generally easy to find, and is < $25 a bottle. I served it with molten chocolate cake on Valentine's day a few years ago and it was a big hit with the GF at the time.
