Tipping furniture deliverymen - Page 2

Does it matter to you guys whether they are just dropping off or also assembling?

I once had a two guys who basically drove a van up to my house, carried in a 30 lb end table (no stairs, living room just inside the foyer), and that's it.

30 seconds total.

My roommate had offered them a cup of coffee when they first rang the doorbell (he didnt know that it was just a coffee table when he answered the door, we were expecting a bunch of other stuff). Then these two guys actually hung around while their coffee was made; sitting around while we painted. Then they had the cheekiness to hint that my roommate should give them a tip for their 30 seconds of work.

Yeah, I'll tip if they have to stay and do some work, but if they are strictly dropping off on a low floor, screw that. Once I had to pay a supplement for delivery over 4 floors up even though we had an elevator. The fuck if I was paying a tip on top of the extra charge.

I'm a generous guy so I would think that no matter the circumstances, drinks would be a fair offer. Might as well stay on good terms with service people. If I think they are working particularly hard, I'll tip. Rather be safe than piss off the people who are lugging around your furniture...

On every move I have done, I usually will tip the driver $250 (assuming 4 guys in total, driver plus 3 helpers), and ask him to give the movers $50/each and he keep $100. This is a job I would not want for anything, especially here in the south given the heat. Movers do a lot more for me than bartenders, and if I can tip a bartender $1/beer for their 25 second value add, surely I can do something for movers. Not tipping is very poor manners IMO.

Oh yeah, I always buy pizza and beers for lunch too.

if the job entails heavy lifting such as a book case. $10 per person if not $5 per person if the job entails assembly required by me. + $5 per person if its both.. $10 per person

two guys delivered my couch. I was planning on tipping $10 each, which I thought was more than generous. Turns out the couch wouldn't fit in the elevator and they had to bring it up 4 flights of stairs. They came in sweating like crazy and panting, and then had to go back downstairs for all the pillows. I ended up giving $15 each. Really not that much - just enough for a decent meal (or 2 if they grabbed some fast food).
