Yea I have been looking at some of the blog entries since the forums were cracking me up too much. Some are questionable. But others aren't bad.

There was one entry about proper fit in clothes, while it's entry level stuff most of us already know I think that it is a very helpful article. It keeps it short and sweet by showing a picture then a line or two about what is bad or good in said picture. Somebody trying to learn proper fit can straight up view with his own eyes what to look for and what to avoid.

Other topics I did not quite agree with. Some were interesting (the one about speaking was to me). Isn't something I want to write off atm. Just need to stay out of the waywt thread or I'll be having too much fun.

That whole WAYWT thread has an aura of "Kidz Klub no Parentz Aloud." The outfits that struck me as particularly overwrought or try-hard received no critique beyond shallow praise or, at best, suggestions of minor tweaks that did nothing to correct the core flaws of the outfit.

Like, there's this pic of a member wearing a bright orange button-up beneath a black vest and a black tie, where everything is untucked or disheveled. The colors look awful together, there is no trace of visual harmony, and, to top it off, the guy's demeanor hardly matches the get-up. It's like he decided that day to play dress-up after seeing some idiot celebrity wearing the same thing. And the only comments ask him to tighten the tie a bit, as if that will somehow help the guy wear an outfit that is far too silly for him.

In the end, the forum reminds me of an article I found on the blog itself. In celebration of white button-ups that sport embroideries or silk screenings, the blog announced that this garment represents a dispatching of the proverbial fashion rule book. This is the mantra that the forum whole-heartedly celebrates-- throw the rules away, and accept whatever the hell people decide to wear. It's OK to tweak the outfit a bit, like the shortening of an already rumpled tie, but to question the fundamental nature of someone's garish or ****** outfit is entirely out of the question. It's as if, unable to afford better clothes or to heed others' advice, these people created a NeverLand of sorts where harsh critique is not only rare but frowned upon.

bamchair- People deliver criticism, but for the most part people try to make it come across as advice rather than straight up telling someone they suck. Some people do deliver harsh criticism though and it usually gets mixed results. I for one, love when ryegb gives out his ratings and cut throat opinions.

That sweater is rather bad ass I have to say. A classier way to peacock. Hey, styleforum should have it's own peacocking thread...

That looks like the **** I wore three years ago. Maybe I should get it out of the closet and post some pics over there.

Back in my hs days, (graduated 04) and in my circle of friends we rocked those tommy hilfiger carpenter jeans, we all had the same reaction kenneth cole boots and a tucked in dark striped sports shirt and a wide black belt. And we all either wore black leather blazers, black peacoats or varsity jackets. On friday's during the football season we would rock the same look but with our jerseys (tucked in).

Yo I was talking about Kino-- sorry if it wasn't clear. There just seems to be a lot of rump-kissing on that (Kino) forum, which is way too often undeserved. I just remember when Oh!Saka! posted a pic that showed him wearing faded blue jeans, except across his ass was the phrase "lizard king" written in crystals or something like that. People grilled him for it, but that sort of response would never happen in Kino, where he incidentally posts. It's like the hideout for garish clothing choices. And I know a bunch of this could be a "difference in aesthetic," but sadly the aesthetic they champion over at Kino is one that goes against any kind of evaluation of fashion, or even the selection of clothing itself. If careful harmony of colors, fabrics, proportions no longer matters, why bother caring about clothing choice? It's weird.

I agree. I have been reading both SF and Kinowear for awhile now. I've noticed that both communities are unlike your average forum full of unnecessary ego trolling and "epic fails!". I read a lot of forums and the guys here at SF especially seem to display a level of class that I rarely see these days. The Kinowear community also has a great vibe of encouragement. That's why I continue to read. You have to understand that guys at Kinowear are mainly high schoolers who are JUST beginning to develop their style. We've all been there, and I really commend them for that. And I have a lot of respect for SF. This place has some of the most stylish people I've seen anywhere. So instead of berating guys who are putting in the effort at communities like Kinowear, I think we can give them some encouragement and guidance on their journey. Just my two cents -

Being in high school is no excuse, and a lot of the members aren't. I don't mind some of the concepts, of at least dressing up (or dressing down) and learning fit (even if it's not great...). But I cannot stand the encouragement of cheap ugly shoes and even cheaper outfits. I know I sound like an elitist brand snob, but since coming to SF and earning money I have been trying to piece together a wardrobe with clothing items I expect to wear at least for the next five years, and not laugh at myself for it.
