Ok,so Im 21 years old and when I was born They thought I had cancer on my leg,so as a baby they removed the skin from about mid-thigh to just under my knee.Skin graphs were very unsuccessful.Im no left with a leg that is skinnier than the other and is very rough looking.I have been debating having surgery on it,but would take tons of time like 7 months, which I dont have since I'm in school and work.So i guess i'm looking for advice on how to not be so damn self conscious about it. especially with women, I get embarrassed and assume they think im some sort of freak, haha.Any advice would be awesome, thanks.

Ps-im sure ill probably have the surgery within the next few years, just need advice for the time being.

Make up some story where you were hurt saving a baby and a kitten from a burning building. Or...just tell them the truth.

Wear pants. Otherwise, just tell the truth. No woman who is worth being with will look down on you for having cancer as an infant.

Tell them the truth, you got the scar by trying to save an infant's live. You don't have to mention that you were that infant.

It's a common strategy to say that you were burnt - many find it much easier to explain than a discussion of possible cancer etc etc. Not to nitpick, the skin grafts worked (as you don't have any open wounds left presumably) but they left contour defect and surface scarring that is not aesthetically pleasing. I assume you're talking about using tissue expanders for your 7 month surgery?

That doesn't make any logical sense. So unless the woman was drunk, dumb, or slow. This would likely garner more attention to it, while making yourself look dishonest. To the OP, get the woman to like you in other ways enough so that when the time comes to explain what it is they are still attracted you anyway. Try having some mild sense of humor about it too. Like a nonchalant joke or something.

Leave the scar and make up a cool story for it. War hero or shark attack might work.

My uncle has a huge scar on his face. He always told me that he got it in a sword fight, but when I grew up I found out he was hit by a truck as a boy.

Shark attack might work; war hero might not be in good taste.

It may seem hard to you, but tell it like it is, you have endured alot, if anyone does not understand, they are the ones with the issues my friend not you, be honest about who you are.

Doctor?Yea your right. The only thing that stopping me is that my leg would be huge in the thigh area...welll at least for a couple months.

Tissue expanders will give you the best possible result but will mean committing to the process that will take months, and depending on the relative size of the scarred area, you may need to have the expanders put in again for another cycle of expansion. They are generally safe with no major complications, the common problems are more a 'nuisance' ie infection and rupture rather than life-threatening. The scarred leg will still probably be a bit smaller than the other though.
