I get around the problem by double-cuffing when I wear such footwear (with all other footwear, I single-cuff 'em), but I'd really rather have a slightly smaller leg opening...

Yes, that's what most of us are talking about here. Getting jeans tapered from the knee down is the most common practice in tapering.

Ahh. Forgive me; I've never had pants of any sort altered. I must have misunderstood. Thanks for the clarification.

How much did it cost you guys to get your jeans tapered? I have some jeans that I never wear because they're bootcut and the leg opening is huge at 20 inches. I want to get them slimmed down to 17.

Honestly, I would just send them to Denim Doctors (or take them if you live in LA)...it's not cheap ($30, I believe, plus shipping both ways) but they do it right, they know not to mess with selvage, and they re-chainstitch the hem. If your jawnz were like $100 or less, maybe that sounds like a lot of money...if they were $200+, it's worth it to get them right.

Thanks. My jeans cost around $100 and I'm embarassed to say it but they're Guess. They're a few years old though and unwearable with the huge bootcut so I wanted to give it a shot to partially see how good the tailor is. Not worth sending to Denim Doctors for me.

What do I need to know about having a pair of selvedge jeans tapered? Is there anything specific that I should communicate to my tailor?

if you want to keep the selvage line, then tell them, but I just had my tailor take off the selvage on my Academis when I got them tapered an inch or so.

I got them for 10 bucks plus tax, so I just dropped them off, the taper was free too so I'm not complaining, pretty well done.

Reviving an old thread because I'm looking to have this done locally in NYC. Has anyone here in New York had this done successfully? I don't have a go-to tailor that I'm confident enough in at the moment.

^^I'm having the same issue. I have a pair of jeans that I love but never wear bc they need to be tapered. Just don't really have a tailor around that I completely trust with them.

I recently had my PBJs tapered. It was necessary, but I wanted to be sure that they did it right. I sent them to a "denim doctor" in Manchester, and he did a great job. But he recommended taking in the selvedge seam because it makes the tailoring less noticable. I don't normally cuff so this was fine with me. The result was excellent.

Just had a pair tapered from the knee down at Laura & Melinda on the LES. I take everything to Mustafa. He did a perfect job on mine. Cost was $25.

Yes, I can recommend. He seems to know what he is doing and it didn't take long.
