Does anyone have opinions on the versatility of brown cxl vs natural cxl? I am looking to invest in a pair of true penny loafers and am caught between the two colors. The natural looks great but I am concerned it will be tough to pair them with chinos or with other 5 pocket pants into the office. I am thinking brown has to be the way to go. I am really torn. Love the natural color but I likely won't wear them with jeans or darker colored pants ever. Any thoughts?

Been lurking here for a few weeks. Finally ordered my first pair of Quoddy's today.

I became interested in Quoddy when I learned about the horween chromepak sole. It seems like although there are plenty of doubters out there over its durability, in practice this extremely comfortable sole holds up very well over time.

I ordered the Dawson model. No crazy changes for my first order. I had an extremely positive experience with customer service and was able to get help with sizing. I ordered an 11.5C (my size in most Alden shoes) but was able to get them to increase the toe box to a D width as I generally do the best on lasts that have a larger toe box.

I purchased the shoe primarily as an easy back-door slip on to take out the garbage, get the mail, run an errand, walk around back yard. I was looking for a shoe that I could take a bit more absuse than my Alden LHS (which I would not trust to leave by my back door as my kids would likely destroy them).

I'm really hoping this shoe works for me from a comfort perspective. I'm very selective about the footwear that I ultimately keep and I'm truly hoping these make the cut. I'm excited that they work and I'll be able to add some additional chromepak soled Quoddys to my collection. Thanks to those who posted on this thread as it helped me pull the trigger on my order.

Congrats! I personally find Quoddys to be the most comfortable for the MiM handsewns. At 5 pairs now with a couple that have been resoled a few times. Tried a few other brands but in end Quoddy was still the best for me

Recent ebay pickup.Fantastic!  Quoddy for Ugg. Had to size 1 size up from my Brannock. Chromepack soles. The only neg is that the laces are too long. Will cut them later.

Nice, did you pick up the black size 11s? I have the cognac Lewistons and was debating the black as well, but when I went back to get them they were sold.

My laces were a joke as well, this was after I cut them and I could definitely have trimmed more.

^^^Got the 10s. I thought the shearling would make my feet hotter, but that's not the case. I prolly won't wear them during the hot summer, but doing fine in the spring! Your brown ones will look great with some wear/patina.

Enjoy your pair! I wore mine all through last summer and they've held up very well - The chromexcel sole shows very little wear for all the walking I've done, and despite the shearling inserts they were still comfortable on all but the very warmest of days.

I like my pair so much I've even worn them out in black jeans, which explains my desperate need for a pair in black.

Given how reasonably these sell on Ebay, they are a ridiculous bargain. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Chromexcel - At least from what I was able to find when searching for a now-defunct product marketing page:

When I open that page cached- it shows a cxl sole as well, so take that info with a grain of salt.

I'd probably put my money on a cxl sole:

The both read like the same default official marketing release, so grains of salt up and down the square on this one.

Before I bought mine, I asked Elizabeth at Quoddy and she said chromepak.

Nice. I've read a ton of good things about chromepak soles. I've seen posts on various forums about 2-3 years of regular wear on pavement with no issues. I haven't, however, read anything about extensive use on wet surfaces or in the rain. I'll try to keep mine dry to play it safe.
