Quoddy Boat Shoes MEGATHREAK - Page 131

Just got a quick sizing question about the beefroll penny loafers

I wear a 7.5D in the Alden LHS and 7.5D Barrie, should I go for a size 8 in the Quoddy beefrolls?
Also, how much should I size down if I plan on wearing them sockless?

Thanks!

Hey guys, I was hoping you could clear something up for me. I was wondering the differences between the boat moc, the boat shoe, and the dawson moc. From What I can tell, the the dawson has a leather sole and true moc styling (one eyelet). The boat shoe is a classic boat shoe with a thicker rubber sole. And the boat moc is a combination with a thinner rubber sole, moc stitching and eyelets. Is there anything else I should know about them? I prefer the look of the dawson moc, but it looks like the boat moc would be more versatile. The classic boat shoe doesn't look as appealing. Which do you guys prefer?

The Dawson moc is made out of Chromepak, rather than Chromexcel leather. It's similar in feel and appearance, but is 2x as thick (they use 10oz chromepak vs 5 oz CXL), and while it will mold to your foot, won't stretch as much. I have the Dawson moc, and it's pretty awesome. It will get some people thinking it's a pair of slippers though, so not as business-casual friendly. The boat moc is sort of in between, don't have any experience with it.

I'm torn between the dawson and the boat moc. I live a half mile from the beach, so it makes sense to get the boat moc, but at the same time I'm not sure if I really want my $300 mocs anywhere near water. The vibram sole definitely adds functionality, but imo takes away from the aesthetics slightly. I'm also not sure whether I like three eyelets or the one. The dawson looks more unique and less like every other boat shoe out there, but also seems more slipper-esque as you said. I realize it pretty much comes down to personal preference at this point. Though I would love to hear some opinions from others who have owned the boat moc or both. I realize they just came out, so that is somewhat unlikely. Are the boat mocs still resoleable? I assume they are

^ Well, first off, I'd never suggest anyone buy a pair of $200-300 Maine-style shoes if they plan on keeping them away from the water, or worrying about how they wear them. They're meant to be worn in the elements, near/in the water, on hikes, get wet, get muddy, and then look awesome as they wear in.

Both the Dawson and Boat moc are resoleable, and both are fairly water-resistant. CXL and Chromepak are both very oily/waxy, so water will bead up on them and not penetrate too deeply if you step in a puddle. They aren't like calfskin, where contact with water can permanently mar them. The vibram sole may end up being a more durable choice, and may or may not give you more traction on a wet surface.

is it possible to get the natural CXL boat moc with the white vibram sole instead of what's shown on the website?

Quoddy will make any combination of the materials they have available. If you type a bunch of stuff in the "customize" box when you order, they'll call you to confirm you're getting what you want. You can also just order by phone to start with.

I initially had a tough time determining whether to go with a shoe from Rancourt or one from Quoddy. I have to say this thread and the fact that Leffot and Leather Soul both sell Quoddy pretty much sold me on trying Quoddy.

I submitted my order Saturday evening  and I hope to have them in 2 to 3 weeks.

i'm trying to decide between the Quoddy Boat Moc in natural CXL with the white vibram wrap sole, or the natural CXL boat shoe from Oak Street Bootmakers.

anybody want to sway me one way or the other?  any experience with both or either shoe?

need help with sizing. I wear size 10 nike sb's and measure just barely under 9.5D on a brannock device. using quoddy's sizing methods it looks like I should get them in 9D. I just don't want them to be too small. I'm ordering the boat mocs and plan to wear sockless

I wear a 13 in Nike and a 12 in Quoddy, Allen Edmonds, Alden, etc...

I hope that helps.

I should also note that there is a sale of the Boat Mocs at Mr. Porter on the link above. I have no idea if they have your size or not, but saving 30% on Quoddy is pretty rare.
