I live in Canada where moccasin means Italian horsebit or driving loafer. But not the white soled boat shoe.

Do you find that boat shoes (with white soles, and the wrap-around lace) are the province of college kids or younger. Does it look look stupid on an adult? Or is it acceptable everywhere and on everyone, but only in the US?

If you are Western European or Canadian, I would particularly value of opinion.

from we, here everybody wears what they like it, boat shoes are not kiddy at all and, even in my town i can see mature, even old men wearing them and nobody cares at all. boat shoes are a classic sailing item and being a classic they are for everybody just like chinos andoxford shirt. Said that i have to tell that boat shoes were very popular in europe few years ago, In these days guys wear sneakers by hogan, tod's, pirelli (yes, the same of tyres!) and other different brands even if the sneakers fashion period, imho, is close to finish. Buy your boat shoes with white soles (the right one for boat's deck!!) and enjoy wearing!!

Just to define precisely, boat shoes (if you intend to wear them even on boats) should have white or tan soles because dark soles can dirty deck's boat, usually in teck. I know that most of you know this, but maybe someone could buy a pair of boat shoes and then wearing them in friend's boat without knowing it!! So, real boat shoes should have white soles, all the rest is fashion (not to intend in a bad meaning)!!

Do maliseets ordered from the website only come in 4 colors? I noticed several pages back that someone had some in burgundy with brick soles, but burgundy isn't listed as an option. Would I have to email them and ask for british tan chromexcel?

I believe you can custom order any of the Quoddy models with any of the materials listed for any shoe model on their site. Just give them a call and ask if they can special order one for you, because the website lists only very limited types of colors/materials for their shoes.

babump is correct - when you place an order there's a 'notes' section where you can specify what you'd really like.

custom bluchers arrived last night, basically the same colorway as those maliseets that TBS and Leffot have done in the past ^. prefer the profile of the blucher for a summer shoe at least (got here just in time ). went TTS and they fit really snug at first but are breaking in nicely. got them unlined though, my ankles feel like they're scraping against rocks right now... hate that about breaking in shoes

They should feel as comfortable as slippers

Thanks for the help, guys. Ordered some maliseets in British tan with brick soles. Haven't seen this combo before, but I'm eager to see how they come out. I'll post pics in 4-6 weeks. Btw I emailed a question to quoddy last night and had an answer at 8am this morning. Impressive service.

Can someone fill me in on the best way to condition the chromexcel leather? I am not looking to get shine or anything, but I'd like to cover up some of the scuffs and keep them from drying up.

I was thinking of using either Saphir Renovateur or Venitian Shoe Creme.

I know Quoddy sells a wax, but it seems as though that is more for waterproofing than conditioning...maybe I use that after one of the above?

Thanks

What are the advantages/disadvantages of having a pair of leather bluchers lined vs unlined?

well, one is lined the other is not. the advantage is you have a lining in one shoe and not in the other.

are you asking if one if more comfortable then the other? are you asking if one fits better? what is an "advantage" to you? use more words.
