I find that G&G (and many other better English shoe makers) use a leather that is fairly transparently dyed. This makes for a lovely and deep rich finish. It is also a fairly 'mobile' dye that will quickly move out of the creases during the first few wearings. If you like this effect - then great - nothing special required
The transparent dye you mention is called analine dye. It allows the grain of the leather to show through rather than a "paint-job", which covers nuances of the grain. Also, the fading in the creases is because G&G gets their hides dyed a solid color that is usually pretty flat and boring and applies what is called a "crust" finish, which is color deposited with waxes and creams. When the shoe is flexed these waxes and creams separate to show the lighter analine dye.

I must be one of the few here that truly appreciate the effect. I love shoes that looked worn and cared for--its like a bike someone has spent a lot of time riding. (Apologies for waxing - pun intended - poetic.)

I certainly appreciate a well patinated and cared for pair of shoes. You have many good examples. I just hate the phase they can through when new but worn in which the creases can just look a bit tatty, to me anyway.
^^ thanks justin! ^^
great combo, finish on the shoes is awesome sauce.

I cropped out the trousers cuz in photos they just didn't work. (In real live my belt, and pocket square brought the whole thing together - but without those elements my gray trou just looked whacky.)
