Anyone watch the Food Network?

A friend of ours (my wife and I) is competing on their Sunday night show "The Next Food Network Star." They started out with 10 finalists in week one and are down to three (should have been two, but the judges wimped out last week and didn't cut anyone). The winner of the competition gets their own show on the Food Network.

If you haven't seen it, it's fairly entertaining as these things go. They compete in various challenges to determine their cooking ability as well as their ability in front of the camera.

Go Lisa!

Of the winners, I think only Guy Fieri has actually succeeding in breaking through. And that was more his personality than his cooking skill.

I love their restaurant, although that's really Gilbert's (her husband's) baby. She handles a lot of the catering business. I've been to lots of parties that they've done over the years. My motto has always been that if Gilbert and Lisa are cookin', I'm eatin'.

I've been really disappointed in how they've edited the show. You can tell that they decide on a character for each person and cut the footage to get that across. Most people thing she's really bitchy or aloof. She's really not either.

+1.

I generally find Top Chef much more entertaining. (No offense to Mark from Plano)

None taken. If she weren't on it, I wouldn't be watching. I've never seen the show before this season.

Damn you know Lisa? That's awesome. I loved her stuff. So high-end, food-snobbish sorts of food. I bet the restaurant or catering service she has is great.

Also, I agree about the character setup by the producers. It's obvious how they want her, or Adam or Aaron to look. I mean, you see Lisa cry every episode, sometimes multiple times in each episode. I have to imagine that's not what she's really like, crying everytime she does anything right or anything wrong.

No, but they put them through 20 hour days to cut it down to just an hour show. She said that they were fried by the end of the day and that those critique sessions that go 10 minutes on the show went 3 hours IRL. I think that by the time those came up she was just fried.

One could only imagine how stressful it'd have been.

So, since you know her personally, do you get to know how the show ended? That'd be pretty cool. Don't ruin it though!

I remember who Lisa is because she is from Dallas and she dresses like she works at Neiman Marcus World Headquarters

Uh...kind of but not really...if I tell you more than that I'll have to hunt you down and kill you. The last show is a live studio audience thing and one of our other friends (my wife's law partner) went up for the taping. They all had to sign confidentiality agreements. Let's just say I'll be surprised along with everyone else.

We've been doing watching parties with the Garzas at different peoples' houses for the last several weeks and it's been fun getting all the back story.

Turns out Lisa and Kelsey became great friends despite how the show got cut acting like they were...what?...antagonistic?

I used to watch Molto Mario and Good Eats, but I don't think they're on anymore.

I haven't seen this reality show, although I love Top Chef. I'm not at all surprised about the producer's editing. From what I understand, this is common on reality shows. I can't believe they make those contestants stand there for 3 hours for critique! I'll have to tune in this Sunday. Good luck to your friend!

They're both still on. Not a fan of Molto Mario, but I like good eats.
