Married...and almost...lol

It really fucks with my head though as I was 200 pounds not too long ago, and I know how easy it is to get back to that.

As far as the water goes, I started with about a gallon a day, but now that I'm running more, and sweating more, so I need the extra H2O. I still don't pee clear all the time. Like you needed to know that.

In the years right after college I focused on my diet, and played hockey 5 nights a week to stay fit. Now I'm 30, and hockey 5 nights a week is not an option (too much wear and tear) so I run about 40 miles a week on average to stay slim. I also still watch what I eat. Now here's my dilemma. I have always had red wine with dinner. But now that the summer has rolled around, a cold beer is a delightful option. I just feel that the calories and potential weight gain from drinking a beer every night is too much when compared to red wine. What are your thoughts on the matter? Am I being a lunatic? Can I substitute a beer for my wine and still be even up calorically speaking? I hate Michelob Ultra but do like Heineken Light...so that may be an option.

If you run 40 miles a week and eat healthy, beer won't do anything to you.

Good to know. I like red wine a lot, but I also like whiskey and limoncello. I wonder if the relationship is due to compounds in alcohol, or more to the psychological state of moderate drinkers (e.g. probably happy and trying to enjoy life).

If you run 40 miles a week there can not be any problems with one beer or a glass of red wine in the evening, that's my opinion. If you're really running like that you NEED more calories just to burn some fat!

This is a good point. If the four categories are abstainers, moderate drinkers, heavy drinkers, and drunks, moderate drinkers are probably the happiest. It shows an ability to enjoy life while maintaining discipline. As a drunk, I tend to think switching to moderate drinking would make me happier.

Life is too precious to drink light beer.

I was thinking along similar lines. Speaking for myself, I just eat or drink what I want (within reason) and make adjustments if necessary.

a really cool doctor that I worked with once told me that if you "need" to drink light beer, you probably shouldn't be drinking any beer at all. I took that advice to heart.

If you just want a buzz drink vodka and soda. Go ahead and have a few.
