Brown Shoes with Gray suit?

Unless your mom is Jil Sander or Donna Karan, I would not follow her fashion advice, both in this specific case and in general.

To me, brown is far more visually interesting than black. The different shades and the way that is catches different light can be quite attractive. I am a big fan of brown shoes with gray and blue suits.

Black looks far better with a blue suit than with a grey suit, in my opinion. The darker the suit, the better black will look with it, I have found. Thus, while I would wear black shoes with charcoal (I more often wear brown shoes with charcoal, and split evenly between black and brown w/ navy blue), I would never wear black shoes with anything lighter than that, except possibly during the evening or to court.

I routinely wear brown shoes to court - federal and state- throughout the country. While the vast majority of lawyers I have seen wear only black shoes to court, a few wear very, very nice brown with blue or grey suits. I remember in Denver a senior partner type in a magnificent gray pinstripe with a light shade of brown broques. Worked very well.

Dark brown is the most elegant color of shoes to wear with a grey suit.

I am wearing brown cap toe and Gray Zegna suit now. Brown shoes are just beautiful.

I am wearing brown captoes with gray trousers as well. I agree with MilanoStyle in that brown shoes are beautiful. I almost exclusively wear brown shoes with navy and gray trousers these days.

Imho brogues shouldn't be worn under a suit. Doesn't matter what colour they are.

I am thinking of wearing brown/chilli colored shoes with all color of suits...
