I vote:

1. NY
2. Chicago
3. San Francisco

Many of the rest are nice to visit, but don't have a fraction of what those cities offer -- I couldn't see myself living in them for years and years without getting bored. I've already been in Philly for 2 years and feel like I know everywhere there is to go in the city.

Definitely not Raleigh. There is not much to do here.

I'm kind of surprised Houston is ranked so high. I didn't think it was a cultural or social mecca but I confess that I've never been there.

i guess they didn't take living costs in this study? i would imagine that SF, Boston, NYC, Wash DC, and Chicago cost of living would be off the charts.

hmmm...more ammo for me to get the f*** out of LA...

The cost of living in Chicago isn't really that bad, I certainly wouldn't group it together with Boston or NYC.

They did. That's why Houston is so high. Austin would probably be the best overall city for young people if they ranked only the social scene and cost of living.

Apparently a lot of graduates are flocking to Philly because NYC and Boston are becoming prohibitively expensive on your average starting salary.

First, I agree that NYC and SF are a cut above (not sure about Chicago). As for Philly, have you explored Northern Libs or South Philly (not South Street, more like Washington) or even the couple gems in the North? My first couple years here, like most students, I spent all my time in Center, University, and Old Cities, and felt I knew everything, too. But there's more out there. Certainly the restaurant scene in the metro area kicks the asses of most cities on that list.

This is news to me, as the job prospects in Philly are pretty poor. Half of the good jobs in the metro area are actually in suburbs. At least this was the situation 4-5 years ago when I was there. Renting in Philly was an absolute steal, I have to admit.

Raleigh, Housten, and St. Louis - I don't really understand these cities being on the list. Pittsburgh is also fairly marginal. I would replace them with Seattle, Portland, and Columbus, Miami.

What? Dude there are so many colleges here and around that it's incredible. What do you mean when you say nothing much to do? :\\
