seriously, if your iPod doesnt consist of heavy doses of Desmond Dekker, The Business, Skatalites, Madness, Cockney Rejects, Templars, etc then Cherry Red docs arent for you

Turn ups are a little thick(rolled too many times), but they are 'freshcuts'!

Docs are part of the "look" for a skinhead, and red clothing typically has very racist connotations pretty much revolving around neo-nazism. White laces in those cherry boots would throw it right over the top. You don't have to get rid of them, just be aware that they represent certain things to some people. It's similar to wearing certain Keffiyeh in that regard.

Song by The Oppressed (a non-racist Welsh skinhead band)
"Hes a skinhead, he dont care
Dr. Marten boots and short cropped hair
Hes a skinhead, he dont care about you
Walking down on the Brighton pier
Long haired hippies filled with fear
Crunch of bone as the boot goes in
Joes so proud to be a skin

(Chorus)

Prison couldn't change his ways
Skinheads back hes here to stay
So if you think you've got the suss
Be a skinhead, be like us

(Chorus)

Hes the king, king of skins
Whats his name, Joe Hawkins...

I don't agree with your opinion of what red supposedly signifies. It could just as easily allude to communism or the red on the Union jack or American Flag. White laces just LOOK good. Lace laws are SO eighties

And they carried those factory names like any other shoe brand carries its makers name.

The Hawkins was basically a softer slightly pointer version of the non-steel Gibson, it had the Airwair sole but the leather was far superior. Finding a pair in your size today is
like hitting the jackpot.

Just found this about the old GT Hawkins factory. http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/ne...hoe.4163201.jp

Just found this thread.
I Have worn DMs for 20+ years and have found the Asian made version decent, if not exactly the same.

Of note to this post- I live in Japan and recently found that ABC Mart, which is a big shoe seller here in Tokyo sells these boots:

I wonder how accurate they are to the originals? The price is very good...
Anyone tried them? I suspect not - seem to be local only...
