I agree.

In my opinion, the south, near golfito still has the best prices and still has many good sites that are not developed as of yet. I think that is where Mel Gibson bought over 200 acres.

But I'll try not to be offended by you generalizing an entire country, one that I happen to be a citizen of, based on your experience of an area roughly the size of Los Angeles county.
Yes I've talked to several cosa ricans who are not pleased with the development of the country. I am especially sympathetic towards the locals who can't afford to buy property in their own country because the demand from foreigners has priced them out of the market. I've never been to Manuel Antonio. I'll be sure to visit on my next trip. I believe the only generalizing statement I made is that Costa Rica is a beautiful country. Do you not agree that Hawaii is more developed than Costa Rica?

I apologize if I offended you. That being said, to generalize a country, wouldn't one have use some adjectives or something? I commented on an intangible phenomenon that does not really even reflect on Costa Rica or its citizens. My comment was directed at tourists (like my relatives) who hyped Costa Rica to a level where future visitors (like myself) were left feeling a little dissapointed.

costa rica sucks! their main exports are bananas, pineapples, coffee and intel chips. Without those 4 things the countrly would be finished. They have some of the highest inflation in central america and hosts many refugees and criminals from colombia and nigaragua with a some 20% demographic living below the poverty line. I also wonder since 90% of people living there are Whites of European decent, the country has virtually no identity and is solely seen as a tourist destination not a place to settle down. The kind of place you want to visit but never stay long. But maybe in thirty years, central america will garnish a little respect, as they are still undeveloped countries. that said, I hope I don't catch a disease when I'm out there for a friends wedding. He'll be moving soon but has to finish a contractual obligation.

^^^ Ha, glad you have such a fine grasp on the country. As far as exports go, wtf do you expect from a country with 4M inhabitants? What would Oregon do without the exportation of lumber? Absurd. "Host(ing) refugees and criminals from colombia and nigaragua (sic)..." I'm sorry because no other country in Latin America, let alone the world, has this problem. Does the country of Argentina ring a bell? 20% poverty line isn't anything to brag about but it's among the lowest of the region. CR is a third-world country, yes, but it is MUCH better off than neighboring countries; Honduras, in comparison, has a poverty level of about 74%. This country has plenty of personal identity, the Spanish and Portuguese didn't exactly settle it yesterday. Honestly, your statement is a fairly offensive if not racist and not to mention completely ignorant. "Catch a disease?" Wow. I fucking hope you get sneezed on at the airport. Edit: It's also unanimous just how much this place "sucks": http://green.yahoo.com/news/afp/2009...costarica.html
