When you tell a story, do you often exaggerate or embellish it? If so, why? - Page 2

I sometimes exaggerate minor details for artistic purposes. One of my favorite stories occurred at the Munich Oktoberfest in 2000. I was sitting at one of the outdoor tables and decided to drink half a mug of beer in one gulp. A fellow tourist who undoubtedly was in an advanced state of intoxication witnessed my feat and asked me to autograph his arm after I was done. The important part of the story (the autograph) is completely true. The amount of beer that was in the mug has slowly crept upward over the years. Actually, I don't remember how much beer was in the mug, so I may not even be guilty of exaggeration.

I always exagerate to the point where each time the the story is told, it gets blown out of proportion again and again, untill the lion i killed bare handed had four brothers that i also had to take down

i usually exaggerate enough to make it absurd. it gets laughs, and that's all im usually after.

I don't embellish if the situation is serious. If I am drinking with friends and having a good time sometimes to stretch a little bit makes the story better. Usually, I just become more animated though for the laughs.

I do on small things if I think it will get me more laughs. Learned from my dad.

It's not a matter of exaggeration, but correct emphasis on certain parts. That's just good story telling.
