And if you are desparate for a Mexican fix there are a few places in town (only go to Rose's Cantina if you are more concerned with boozing than eating.)

I miss the Vondelpark

I see your point about a lot of dodgy nasty places immediately by CS, but the term "around the station" is open to alot of interpretation considering the size of the city and the literarly license that letting agents take. Just to the east of the station behind the RLD is full of quaint beautiful streets. 5-10 minutes west is the same thing.

I do disagree about most of the outskirts though. Sloterdijk, Bijlmer, Lelylann, Amselveen, YUCK.

I would not live outside the centre of Amsterdam, espcially if I was a single guy who was only around for a few months.

Yeah, to the west is the Jordaan. Although the borders are debatable, most of the area around there is quite beautiful and full of great bars, restaurants and shops.

To the east is a bit more sketchy due to the red light district, but is still a great place and full of charachter.

Regardless, pretty much anywhere (in the center) is walkable in like 30 minutes and bikeable in like 10.

Damn, now I miss AMS.
