Leather Jackets: Post Pictures of the Best You've Seen/Owned? - Page 1067

Exactly what I'm thinking. The jacket is too long for him at least on the sleeves. May look better without the bunching up on them.

Ay guys, please refrain from insulting a member for no reason. The jacket is made from a legally obtained elephant hide from a long time ago way before this was a crime. Also the elephant did die of natural causes and no one went out to kill an elephant. The maker obtained the leather and was creative with it.

Really bad character to have jumped and tried to insult a member that has been on this forum longer than you. And Skeen happens to be a good dude so no reason to have done that. I'd suggest coming into the thread as an inquisitive person and having asked HOW an elephant leather was allowed versus shitty assumptions.

I'd like to see the jacket closed and i don't think bunching is too bad... but the arms are a little long.

Umm, I don't know what forum you've been looking at, but insulting people for no good reason happens every day on these boards.

That being said, wearing the skin of a critically endangered animal deserves condemnation.  If it can be proved that the skin was obtained and used on the up-and-up, cool, but the fact is it can't be proved, and given the way that elephants are hunted in today's world, it's a fair assumption that the skin was possibly illegally obtained.  I don't give a fuck what some rando on the internet claims about its origins.

That's right, another "shitty" assumption and if you don't like that you can go fuck yourself.  The jacket's an ugly piece of shit made from an endangered animal.  Even if the skin's completely above board, it's deeply uncool to brag about wearing it.

It's not a rando. @Chinorlz, the designer of Collateral Concepts, is the guy who made the jacket, and he's the one who posted the backstory.

It's perfectly logical to believe that buying clothes made of endangered species is wrong. If you are part of the demand, or hype for a thing, then you are part of the problem in how that thing is obtained, even if in this case it might have been legit. Just don't wear pieces made out of endangered species. It's pretty easy for most of us.

And don't pretend that part of the allure of buying that jacket isn't because it's endangered. "it looks like no cow or horse that's ever lived" Yeah, there's a reason for that.

Wow dude are you really that thick? Just cuz it happens doesn't mean you should do it. If everyone jumps off a cliff will you do it?

How old are you? I'll guess early 20s? do some growing up. If you are post 30 than i am saddened for your predicament.

Bolded comment 2:
Maybe somewhere in there on a moral standpoint you may be right. But, that still does not justify insulting someone. Just because you chose the moral high ground in regards to some old leather does not mean we all should. i personally think if the leather is there its worse to not use it. The animal was hunted down, yes it sucks. But wasting things sucks as well.

I don't really care either way what you wear since I'm not PETA, but I just want to point out that ethics != logic.

If you were stranded on a mountain and your fellow climber was dead, the logical thing to do would be to eat him, despite whatever ethical objections you may have to this.

As much as I dislike the idea of wearing elephant, if the animal died of natural causes (African governments honestly not withstanding), then that's fine.

Fit definitely looks off though

Caveat just nicely summed up my thoughts on this and I'm not getting drawn into an argument with you.

I don't have anything else to say about this other than to repeat that the very nature of that jacket makes it fucked up.  And that skeen is free to look like an asshole in his ugly leather, it's his money.

This isn't an ethical treatment of animals issue. This is an endangered species issue. I'm all for killing cows and eating them and making hides out of them. It's the circle of life. Same with elephants. Until they are endangered.

I would have no ethical obligation to your climber scenario or eating an endangered species in that case. This is not that case. There is no need for anyone to make or buy an elephant hide.

The leather is several decades old. It's not like the elephant was shot for the sole purpose of making the jacket.

I'm not an activist or anything and I don't think the guy is awful for buying it or the other guy is terrible for making it, but that argument doesn't really hold for me. The appeal of the item, in large part, is that it is rare and different. It is rare and different because it is endangered and very hard to come by. Maybe somebody else see that jacket and wants one now and goes to the black market. Maybe not.

Is it okay to make wearing a hide of an endangered species just a little more acceptable in society by buying one yourself and showing it off as long as yours wasn't killed for the hide? Is it okay to have sex with a prostitute that wasn't a victim of sex trafficking, but not okay with one that was? I don't know. But it's certainly a reasonable opinion to say that it is not. How about we all just don't wear endangered hides to protect the species? Is it really that difficult to resist the urge to buy a fucking elephant jacket?
