At that level, you'd want to look at, among others:

diamondclothingco.com - a new "young gun" under the tutelage of John at Goodwear, especially look at him if you are interested in a distressed jacket - the "Combat Crew" is the best distressed leather jacket I have ever seen.

http://www.thurston-bros.com - fit jackets for Aero A-2 jackets so that you can nail down sizing, many options and leathers available, each contract has its own particular fit. Obviously you can also scan through the Aero website

With that said, Eastman is obviously a very good maker, and you can't go wrong there. To me, when buying an A-2, you want to look at a ton of jacket pics online and ask the following questions:

1. What type of leather? Goat / Horse / Steer? Goat being the lightest, but no A-2 should use really heavy leather.
2. Seal or Russet? (i.e. light brown or brown, or also dark seal, which is a very dark brown)
3. What color knits? Brown, caramel, or the famous Aero red knits, which you can get from other companies other than just the current Aero.

Good luck on your search, looking forward to seeing what you choose. Lots of great options out there.

fwiw, i'm interested in other styles (including more "fashiony" designs) as well, A2s just seem to fit my style the best. i already have a lighter suede jacket so i'd prefer something heavier and tougher.

You might want to give some of the A2s at blueingreen, consideration. Like ChrisGold said, definitely find as many pictures as you can of each brands A2.

Blueingreen stocks Real McCoys jackets, which are certainly top shelf. (And, they are pretty slim as they are designed for the Japanese market) What you will find with the A-2 jacket is that many of the original contracts are pretty slim patterns, since they were made for American pilots who would be typically 5'8", 140 pounds or so... not a lot of over sized guys in the 30s and early 40s.

Father-in-law gave to me his old shearling bomber this weekend. Definitely a vintage look but I'm kind of digging it.

Available here.
I've always had a weak spot for the adidas SLVR line and kind of regret their demise.
