But you can get an MTM jacket or just stock sizes?

I'm sure Aero makes very high quality jackets, but there are two things that I don't like when I go to the website gallery:

- It seems I can get one of my legs in the sleeves. I hate jackets with baggy sleeves, I've sold one recently because of that.

- It seems that most 45-55 year old guys around here have one that looks like the jackets in the website (style wise, I'm sure 99% of them are not near as good, quality wise).

I have a Fontana rider, which seems exclusive to Thurston, and was based on a 60s riding shirt.

They allow things like shortening sleeves (which I did because I don't need long sleeves for riding), and changes in body length, bit they won't change the base pattern.

The website is appalling, but look at the Japanese sites, or Himel bros., and you'll see that it's just a marketing misstep.

Re the sleeves. The sleeves on the racer are definitely not baggy. However, an A1 bomber or a depression era halfbelt would probably look odd with slim sleeves, though they are still not Wilson Leathers baggy. You need to choose a style that fits you, and go from there.

Yes the website is a mess. If only retailers realized how a little marketing on SF with a good site and good photos can go a long way. But i digress.

Honestly Aero makes great quality there is no question about that. However, the look/cut to me feels like its a jacket for older guys. Its just no as exciting and i know this is coming from a TOJ owner so it is perceived as one sided. But, i do like the look of TOJ better. But, now that i have a TOJ, i don't think i would want another one. And thats the thing with these custom leathers, they are very high quality and you won't need another jacket of that type for a long long time. The TOJ i bought was purchased with the intention of longevity.

Lol!  I actually Googled "1923 leather" before making my post but got no relevant results.  I lean more towards the classic designs and, therefore, am not familiar with many of the designer brands.  The simplicity of that a1923 blends the two approaches -- classic and fashion -- really well.  Thanks for the link.

@Tsujigiri:  As others have already observed, you must first decide whether you want a classic design or something more fashion forward.  If you prefer classic designs, take a look at the offerings from Himel Bros., Real McCoys, Rainbow Country, ELMC (new Eastman line) and Freewheelers.  They do not offer the customization that Aero offers, but the quality of their leathers and workmanship are second to none.

I have a bunch of leather jackets, including both a ToJ and an Aero. The Aero is definitely more impressive. I do like the ToJ, though. A very nice update on a classic, which is what Drew was good at doing.

Some models of the classic leather jacket makers are more "dad jacket" and some models can easily be more modern/slim fitting. It's not a blanket either way.

La Guy, do you think the guys at Aero/Thurston would be able to make something similar to this?

(this is pretty much the best-looking leather jacket I've ever seen, so if it turns out I could get something similar in the future when TOJ may not be around, that would make me happy :))

How can you tell with stock pics? shog[1].gif

You can change zippers, pocket angle, etc. to your liking. You can choose a different leather as well. And slim arms, body, etc. The "ToJ is better looking" argument is purely subjective and kind of silly when you are dealing with stock photos of a stock product vs. a mtm product on the body for which it was measured.
