Years ago (like before my time) CK used to make dope shit… at least that's what I've heard from some older folks whose opinions I trust. His stuff is hard to differentiate as it all basically looks the same with similar label. But the one CK piece I own is a full cashmere sweater, highly detailed and Made in Italy… definitely not the Macy's stuff. It was some random one-off I scoped at Marshall's or something and the original price still on the tag was $325 or thereabouts iirc. Kopped for $39.99 satisfied.gif Not sure where one would find one of the crazy leathers like that however.

Ya I don't disagree… I mean I don't even think they have boutiques with the good stuff, at least none I have seen. But I still like my sweater for 40 bux.

Ok guys this thread has made me really want a leather jacket now. I've never had one before, so I thought I might ask the experts.

From what I've seen, I really like the double rider style ones with the asymmetrical zipper (but not so asymmetrical that the jacket hangs weird unzipped). What I don't like is that a lot of them are really short or have a fixed belt that hangs uselessly when not used.

A. Is a longer double rider a faux pas? I know the original intent was to not inhibit movement for motorcycle riders, but I wouldn't be riding a motorcycle with a leather jacket, so is it acceptable to break with tradition?

B. What brands would you recommend? The TOJ DR 2010 looks good to me and gets good reviews, but I'm not sure that they're still taking orders, and I've heard some other options are better. I see a lot of recs for Rick Owens, but I also hear that they aren't as good now as they used to be. It looks like Aero and some of the other usual suspects have that weird fixed belt...

you bought one?

Looks like he's just recommending it, based on the post to which he is replying.

Indeed, that is a nice jacket.

Thanks for the recs. Looks like all the Schotts have that belt that I dislike. I hadn't heard of Attachment before, but I take it that they're well regarded? Looks like for now my choices have narrowed to the TOJ DR 2010, Attachment DR, and some kind of RO Stooges. Can any of you who have owned or handled these tell me what the comparative advantages are between them?

thought he meant pre-order which is closed and the jacket will be super pricey if not pre-ordered from attachment

@Tsujigiri whats your budget?

i had a TOJ dr and have a stooges so i can give you my 2c,

TOJ dr will be a very classic tight biker fit with fairly thick leather, you can make some customizations with TOJ to it so its to your liking.
pros - customization, great quality, and toj fits are spot on
cons - no leather treatments

RO stooges is a different beast, its longer in arms and overall length, may have a special treatment depending on which model you get and may not be as thick as the TOJ. But, RO does have a certain look/fit/feel to it that is unique to ro so thats a different story.

You need to buy a jacket that fits your style/fashion. if you wear more black and gravitate towards RO, CCP, BBS type brands then its an RO for you. However, if you want to wear aldens, apc, w+h type brands i say the TOJ. your call.

You can add the 10 month wait as a con to ToJ. devil.gif

sinnedk gave a good summary.

No, I didn't buy the KKA, just recommending. If I were to buy a DR now, that would be the one I'd go for. Even if you didn't pre-order you can proxy from Japan once it's released (assuming you are in the 44-48) for the retail price (160,000 yen) plus proxy fees.

hmm thats good to know, thats $1572.80 before the fees so lets say after fees about 1650-1700, quiet a lot imo, i'd throw my cash towards ro instead
