Where to stay in D.C? - Page 4

The Madera has a pretty alright bar (Firefly). The decor is a little Kimpton/over the top. Good weekend rates, though. It's also only a block from the circle and nearer than the Hilton to most thing I like in the area.

DCA.

I'll break from the pack and say IAD, just because I work there

No seriously, fly into DCA if you're given the choice. It is literally across the Potomac from DC, better than sitting in Northern Virginia traffic from Chantilly all the way to the District.

What do you guys think about the Westin Embassy Row?

Any thoughts on Westin? Also, considering staying at the St. George, located at 2033 M Street, NW. Is that too far of a walk to Dupont Circle?

Westin has a bed that many people like, that I find a little soft. (I bought the Simmons Beautyrest equivalent minus the pillowtop.) I can't tell you anything about the services that particular Westin offers.

The St. George is a 5-10 minute walk to Dupont Circle. Is there a particular reason you want to be west of Dupont Circle? Or to be in the Dupont Circle area at all?

I was told that I should be near a metro and that Dupont Circle was a good bet. I dont' know anything about DC but I will be relying on public tranportation. Any advice would be appreciated. Also, I will be renting a car for one day and I will probably end up walking there. Avis happens to be on M Street

is your best bet. It's a Courtyard by Marriott, so it's decent, but not stellar. It puts you a short walk to Penn Quarter and all five metrorail lines (Metro Center -- red, blue, orange; Gallery Place -- red, yellow, green), above a good brewpub (Gordon Biersch), across from a club (Ultrabar), and down the street from two great mellow bars/restaurants (Poste, Zola).

I think this was the best advice.

Sorry, M and 17th. Edit: I pretty much elminated any idea of staying anywhere around the mall or White House. The Courtyards are $1550 for 4 nights. That's more than my companion and I want to spend. If I go around DuPont (or other areas I'm sure), I can get away with about $1100
