Scent Question

Does anyone know of a scent whose current production uses natural ambergris?

What about any that have an easily identifiable ambergris note, synthetic or natural?

Ambergris - as I understand it - isn't easily identifiable as a note per se - it's more of a background for other notes to add richness and depth. Synthetic (ambroxen?) and natural ambergris (whale barf, btw...) is used in perfumes, I recall hearing it bandied about in the Creed line-up, but I've not really bothered with their scents in depth.

As for the scent itself...well... I've heard SL Musc Kublai Khan comes close to having an ambergris-type scent (boy do opinions vary on that one...), but l'Antimaitre is supposed to be the closest representation of ambergris.

I really want to get my hands on the Lutens one you mentioned but it is not sold here as far as I know (a policy I don't understnd, but not as dumb as Le Labo restricting sales of a scent to a particular city) and I haven't been motivated enough to start buying form one of those decanting online places. I never heard of l'Antimaitre.

Well, I took the name off another site and it turns out that there's a typo. What are the odds.

This link has a review, and, frankly, the review is not at all promising IMHO.

As for MKK, they sell it only in Paris, but on some of the 'fume boards you'll find some who can be induced to part with some of theirs either by swap or with lucre. I'd heard that Kiehl's Musk was remarkably similar but when I tried a hit of that one time I was underwhelmed. Probably washed it off too soon or didn't give it enough wearings.

I think Creed Acier Aluminium has a pronounced natural ambergris note. I don't remember smelling any ambergris in Muscs Koublai Khun. To me, it smelled mostly of horse sweat and I guess what Luca Turin calls "civet".

yes acier aluminum is one where its pretty strong.

i believe creed uses it in most of their scents. many people think its part of their houses signature notes.

not sure about their formulations tho especially any recent changes.
