They are great for deli/takeout stuff, but also have seating inside. I second who's recommendation. There's also a place in the Fairfax Farmer's Market "Ulysses' [Something]" that is decent, but Papa Christo's is really the best. (sorry, just noticed you already know the latter place)

Not to mention the entire market inside of Papa's. Really great stuff. LD, last time I was there in May my buddies and I strayed from our usual gyro to try the gyro pizza. Damn. Same basic idea as the gyro except they add feta along with the tomatoes. I'm tempted to call it my new go-to.

I haven't tried the gyro pizza but now will have to. Thanks

+1 It`s sort of American/Greek, but Papa`s is probably the best in L.A.

Pizza gyro? American/Greek? Doesn't inspire confidence. I hope I never find myself in LA, craving the cuisine of my ancestors.

I forget if it's on Wednesdays or what but if you really want the experience, go for My Big Fat Greek Dinner. Very cool Greek home-style dining and you'll get a taste of just about everything. Gyro pizza isn't as American as it sounds as it's really just an open-faced gyro. That said, I don't see how it's really American/Greek, at least compared to 99% of what else is in LA like Daphne's Greek Cafe or whatever. I'm not sure what else you'd expect out of a Greek place that also had a decent-sized Greek market catering to a rather large Greek community.

Papa Christo' s on Pico Blvd. is good and has one of the best gyros in town. You may also try Le Petit Greek on Larchmont Blvd. It's owned by the Houndalas family and they have been in the restaurant business for generations. Ask for Demetrius or his brother Thomas and they'll take care of you. The Moussaka is my favorite.

If you ever driving up the coast, stop at Greek at the Harbour ( It's actually at the harbour) in Ventura.

Papa Christo's is ok for gyro. I give it a D for atmosphere. Sophie's on 3rd just east of Crescent Hts has the best outdoor setting. Food is good not great but the truth is great greek doesn't exist in L.A.. You have to go back east for the real deal, Chicago has amazing greek food. Go to Greek Islands in Greektown if you're ever there.

No love for Taverna Papadakis?

Or do we all just hate SC that much?

Forgot to warn you and everyone else: PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT TRY THE "PAPA CHRISTOS" BRAND BEER. WOW was it bad. The buddies I went with couldn't believe that beer could EVER be that God-awful.
