I'm a 34 chest. Where can I buy suits?

Hey guys. I've been lurking for a while, reading up on all the great info here.

So my problem is that my size really doesn't exist. I'm 5'8" and 135lbs with a cyclist-build (weight is more distributed in the legs). 36 is hard enough to come across as it is, but a 34 is impossible. With that said however, I did recently purchase a YSL suit that fits so much better than the 36's I've been wearing. And this made me realize that I needed to stop settling for 36.

So what brands will do 34, and what stores could I find them at? I understand from reading this forum that MTM is the way to go, but at this point, I feel I need to try different styles/brands/fits out before I understand what I will want in my MTM.

Thanks

As a fellow 34er, if you're in the US, you're pretty much out of luck. The only places you can get these suits are high end boutiques like YSL, Dior Homme, Prada etc.

I found a blazer at Zara once in 34 but htey said it was an accident that they even had it.

It probably was. A Zara store manager told me no Zara stores in the US carry size 34 suits. Only the European ones do.

If you're in Europe, as has been said already, it's not AS big an issue, though I still find it hard enough to find nice 36's. D&G have loads in 34

You'll also have a problem with the trousers unless you can buy the suit as seperates. I have a similar problem, I'm 5' 4" with a reasonably big chest but small shoulders and huge arse and thighs so pretty much any RTW suit I find in my shoulder size are too long (even when shortened, the pockets would look too low) doesn't have enough spare seam to be tailored to fit my chest, and the trousers don't get past my knees.

If you just want to try out styles, I'm sure H&M have those sizes, and they run slightly small as well. Of course quality etc... but they should fit.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there's about a 99% chance that you won't find much in North America. I'm 35" in the chest and it's hell for me to find anything that fits. Even in Korea and China it's nearly impossible.

That is, unless it's MTM or heavily tailored.

Which brings us to Japan. The motherland. Mecca. God's gift to the slender man. I recently purchased a Paul Smith suit from Osaka and it fits perfectly. There wasn't a single alteration done to it except for shortening the pants. Even the sleeves were the perfect length. I've also tried on Etro, Dolce and Gabbana, and Armani suits in Japan, and ever single one of them fits perfectly. Most Japanese men are very small. They are both thin and short, much more so than Koreans or Chinese. They also spend a ridiculous amount of money, so you will find suits from most of the major manufacutres, as well as a lot of unfamiliar ones, in smaller sizes. My advice is to save as much as you can and make a trip into Japan in the late-winter, or mid-summer to get in on the sales. You won't regret it.

I just looked at the tag. Many suits I've seen in Japan don't have a measurement in inches, but rather in S, M, L. Mine is a S, which is 34.8 inches.

I beg to differ. A quick SF search turned up these similarly-themed topics w/ suggestions:

I wish it were that easy. I suffer from unstable shoulder joints. I've separated my left shoulder a few times, and my right currently does not feel its best. I'm rehabbing right now, but it's still gonna be an issue unless I go the surgical route.

As for the boys line by Hickey, I would be interested in giving those a shot. Do saks, neiman, or nordstrom carry them?

Wow. A 34" chest. Amazing.

I'm a 34 too. The typical responses you're going to get are H&M, Thick as Thieves, Four in Hand, Jimmy Au's, and the boys' department.

By the way I do have a 34R from H&M for sale: http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=71112

Lift weights 3x a week and you'll be up to a 36" chest in no time.

Try Ralph Lauren "Black Collection" suits. They begin at 36R and are very much on the slim side. Many are on sale right now at RL stores.
