I always enoyed "Wake up drunk in the gutter after a weekend long bender." Or anything except for Pimps and Hoes.

or a variant thereof. CEO's and corporate hoe's to spice things up. I did a chique and shock which was basically dress well but with a shocking touch like no pants that was fun. pirate themed parties rock. kid's dream job was neat too, just hope people would rather be hot air baloon pilots and medieval knights rather than all bankers and stocktraders.

Some of my favorite theme parties have been Pirate parties, 80s parties, and lingerie parties (although hard to pull off and often awkward - you might want to stay away from this one).

Absolute best theme party: Each person gets a different theme invitation i.e. one person gets an invitation that says "80's part,y" one person gets an invitation that says "Formal cocktail party" and yet another gets an invitation: "Hawaiian Shirt Party."

The idea's are only limited by your imagination. Your brother's skanky girlfriend? She gets a "pimps and hoes" invite. Your ambigously gay friend? He gets a "Musical Theatre Appreciation" invite.

The only important thing is that each one is different, and you are highyl insistent that people abide by the theme.

Do you tell each person what's going on, or do they all believe that everyone has the same theme?

Each person believes that everyone got the same theme - that's the whole fun of it. Make sure everyone arrives promptly and let hilarity ensue. (To be be fair, you as the host, should wear something equally ridiculous, but at least you get to pick your theme)

I always had good luck with parties revolving around a certain type of drink, such as trashy champagne parties, 40 Fests, Boxed wine, etc...

To put it in a more politically correct term: "african-american cuisine appreciation night" It consisted of fried chicken, corn bread, mashed potatoes and mac N cheese. Some dishes planned but never panned out include collared greens and bottles of Olde English 800. Also interesting to note that none of the attendees were african american.

I was in a heavy partying fraternity back in undergrad and we had a theme party a week with a sorority. The best I recall were "wear anything but clothing" (most common ended up being garbage bags, boxes on strings, etc. with some girls doing an interesting improvisation using duct tape). Another would be the classic golf pro's and tennis hoes, although most people already dress like that anyways. Oh, and 1970s ski lodge party was a hit.
