I really can't decide how I'd decorate the interior. http://www.sothebysrealty.com/Proper...&No=23&PSeq=20

Does McFurniture qualify as an aesthetic? Because that's what you'd need.

"Traditional" furniture sold by the likes of Pottery Barn or Ethan Allen with an Eileen Grey table thrown in for some "taste."

Yes, some ethnic chemically-dyed rugs and votive candles.

Blindfolds in each room, and spare ones for guests.

I saw some program on HGTV today where a couple was trying to re-decorate their house in 'New Traditional'. Yes, it's what it sounds like. This house screams 'New Traditional'.

It's better looking than some of the other McMansions in Virginia...

How horrible--HGTV.

What about this $45 million home? http://www.sothebysrealty.com/Proper...93&No=2&PSeq=0 Be sure to look at the photo of the staircase with the appalling mural--if that doesn't scream Dream Princess, I'm not sure what does. Everything else has a real grandeur about it--the type of grandeur that requires a made-up familial crest to complete.

Debatable; I think it's pretty emblematic. It's a shame, too. There are plenty of nicer looking (usually older) homes in the DC metro area. People just have awful taste. You know you're in trouble whenever someone mentions 'flow'--and they mention it a lot.

Oh, it's pretty bad. The program started with the couple showing their bedroom to a designer, who is supposed to help them re-decorate in accordance with their own style (I know, it already doesn't make sense). She scopes out the room and immediately labels their style 'New Traditional'. They have no idea what that means, but evidently it has something to do with having a sleigh bed and a shabby chic dresser (*cringe*). So, the designer sends them out to go find new 'New Traditional' pieces. They pick out some things that are much, much worse than what they already had (all from Room & Board). The designer scolds them: "But that's not your style!"

They agree. The world is three people stupider.

To make matters worse, in addition to being a tasteless flake, the designer had no color sense whatsoever. The bedroom wound up having mauve walls, white trim, citrus green furniture, and a beige bed. It was like looking at vomit--really bad-tasting vomit, the kind you're really glad you threw up.
