Anyone think Dara Torres is on steroids?

The 41 year old swimmer who is swimming faster than she ever has before?

Sounds a lot like Roger Clemens who maintained his throwing velocity for much, much longer than is normal...

She's actually submitted herself to very stringent blood, urine and DNA testing. And I'd hit it.

i have to say the skeptic in me says yes. there's this body of evidence against her. there's the knee and rotator cuff surgeries which i believe were fairly recent. and the fact that she's breaking her own records from 20 years ago which is pretty much unheard of.

on the flipside, she is involved in the most rigorous drug testing program provided by the USADA. and why after all these years would she want to compete in the Olympics again? she already has a bunch of medals and the optimist in me likes to think it's for the love of sport and competing. and at age 41, if you can still compete at a world class level, go for it.

Plus I think the new swimsuit designs are helping her out. Everyone is breaking world records like nobody's business now.

i think shes on steroids, have you seen her biceps? theyre massive! (have no idea who she is or what she looks like)

No, she's just in shape and very lean something that is so rare in the United States that many people immediately think it can't be natural but that is most likely exactly what she is. She not very big/mass at all, just lean which shows off her physique.

+1 to that. when you're talking in terms of .01, every little bit counts and it sounds like those new Speedo suits make a big difference.

Dara Torres with her daughter:

tough to say. but in her favor is the fact that she's doing the short distance events, not the long distance events. strength is usually the last thing to go. and short distance is easier to train for, at least from my perspective.

and yeah, the swimsuits make a huge difference. when i swam back in age group, high school and for part of one year in college, the swimsuits weren't as engineered as they are now. i remember being impressed by what my buddies called "paper suits" - just really thin and lightweight swimsuts.

I find it extremely difficult to believe that anyone who would subject themselves to blood testing is on the sauce.

She was on Leno last night. Her muscles are three times the size of mine.

Torres is a former champion. I am much more suspicious of journeyman athletes (e.g., FloJo, Michelle Smith) who come out of nowhere to win gold medals and set world records.

Really, who cares about swimming? I don't watch swimming. Does anyone watch swimming?

I watch swimming every four years.
