Wedding Rings

You could do like my dad. He doesn't like wearing rings so he never really did. About 10 years ago my mother had their rings melted down and made into a new one. So now she wears both. Probably not an option, huh?

Just a plain white gold ring for me which I need to take in to get rhodium plated agin as it's looking a bit dull these days; My wifes ring is exactly the same design just thinner and with 10 small diamonds embedded around it. I much prefer a plain unobtrusive ring on guys. Cheers, Craig

Tungsten-carbide. I really like it. Not a single scratch in almost 3yrs.

We had matching bands done by Chris Ploof from the Boston area in Mokume Gane which is layers of metal that blend together in a pattern like woodgrain which is how the samurai made made their sword blades. It is a mix of platinium and white gold. He even set a custom yellow diamond in my wife's ring.

He also does damascus steel and meteorite rings. Interesting stuff and we are quite happy with them.

Plain yellow gold band for me. I didn't want anything with any more design than a plain band. I do wish I'd gotten a comfort-fit band, but since I take my ring off about once a year I guess it doesn't really matter.

Is comfort fit really a big deal? What are the advantages? Are non-comfort fit rings uncomfortable to wear?

I never liked wearing one. always clicked on the keyboard and was a general irritation. After a year we both decided the rings were lame and to not wear them. 12 years later its still not a problem.

Be aware any of the noble metals will get expensive. And whatever you do - DO NOT get 18k+ gold for her ring. The metal is way to soft, and will drop that nice diamond that cost more than your car, into the gutter.

The inside edges are rounded off and most people find them more comfortable. If you have a non-comfort ring, I believe it is possible to have it easily turned into one.

I can't agree more about Tungsten. I've had mine for a year, and also do not have a scratch. The ring has been through workouts, scraped along the cement at the pool, and just about anything else you could think of. Its a great conversation piece due to its "rarity" as a wedding band.

I have a very simple white gold band. I picked it because I figured it was plain enough that it would be "timeless". The fact it looks pretty much just like my Dads probably also played a role on a subconscious level.

I work with hand tools almost constantly. I spent the first year of my marriage working as a production manager (fancy way of saying I built props and installations and oversaw their implementation) and not once caused the thing damage. I've had an office for the last few years, but still haven't scratched the thing. My fax machine is all sharp angles, too. Haha. Actually, I'm in the shop (shirt/tie and all) a fair amount of the time. No longer production. Back in automotive.
