This may be very stupid or unbelievably stupid, but I'm planning
to leave DC for San Francisco next Wed or Thurs, maybe Friday.

Anyone want to come? Anyone want to let me stay at their place on the way?

Any suggestions for things to see or do along the way? My route isn't set in stone.

You're riding your bike? This sounds insane to me.

(It was really nice meeting you/hanging with you before you left!).

Get there safely brutha.

I'm busy with work and a baby on the way, but I just wanted to suggest that riding across the US on a F650GS doesn't strike me as particularly crazy - people do it every day. On a Honda C90 maybe. But a GS ought to get you there in comfort. Have fun.

Are you going to Moto GP at Laguna Seca? There will be a lot of people you could meet up for part of the ride toward there.

Same here, GS. Thanks. Looking forward to the Bay Area, pocketsquareguy. Finally took your advice on the Etymotic ER6i's bigbjorn, but they haven't arrived yet, so nothing to report. Will not wear dress boots but Sidi's on the long ride. J, I thank you mentally every time I read ADVrider. Here's another thanks in print. Never heard of the Moto GP or Laguna Seca. Seems like I'll be leaving a bit late to make it, but might head down there once I'm settled in SF.

Well if you're not going there on purpose you probably want to avoid it for that weekend, since it's going to be a madhouse. I was considering going but it was too late to iron out all the lodging and stuff. If you do go down, look into the Ducati guys' spaghetti feed dinner - it's like $15 on Friday night (maybe Fri and Sat, can't remember) for all the craft beer you can drink, spaghetti and a bunch of other food, etc. It sounded like fun to me but there's too much involved at this point to plan a trip down this year. And, you're welcome for the ADV rec. One of the (2

) best forums around. If anyone wonders what is mentally wrong with us (riders) that we would take such a risk, blah blah blah, take a look at this thread: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36783 If a guy didn't want to head out in a random direction for an indeterminate time after reading that, I probably wouldn't like him much in person.

I love driving the open road... actually did just that and drove from St. Louis to Houston. Though I don't think I'd do it on a bike. Anyway, good luck to you, enjoy your trip, keep us regularly posted and share your pics!

I made it, barely. Well, not really, but I did a little off-roading in the Sierra Nevadas and couldn't get back on-road w/o the help of the CA Highway Patrol...

Had a great trip in all though. Will post picts and comments when the moving crate w/ my camera cable arrives (today or tomorrow?)

Big thanks to Michael J Krell for the wonderful time in Omaha. It was a tremendous pleasure to meet you and your family. Am eagerly awaiting to the MJK hoody.

Looking forward to some more of your home cooked pizza, iammatt. No, it's my turn. But only after I get some furniture in here.

how about finally lighting off in this direction J? We'll go do the same Sapa ride that Tom and I did a couple years back. It's amazing.

emptym - glad you made it safely, and add me to the list of guys awaiting pics-n-tales from the road.
