(There's been talk of using wormhole-type transport as a linkage between different segments of space, but this is currently not much more than science fiction.)

You lost me at "the".

On the wild side: transporters, as others have said. That would be the one thing that would reshape our world.

On a realistic side: fully integrated real-time monitoring of blood glucose levels with insulin pump technology in order to more closely mimic the pancreas.

That **** from Strange Days (one of those virtual reality in your head ideas). Unfortunately it would no doubt create an even more reclusive society.

Not an invention, but I hope one day we'll replace humanity with a superior, more peaceful and better looking, species created in our image.

I'm dying to upgrade myself. Humanity Home Premium is so pedestrian, I'm really looking forward to Ultimate.

Whoa...

I had this exact thing explained to me last weekend. Exact.

You didn't happen to be in the Minnesota Lake Country for the Fourth, did you Dusty?

(This is really rather disturbing....)

So much for Dusty's claims that the transporter is impossible. I smell a conspiracy.

Dusty, what do you mean by augmented reality devices? When you say that, the first thing that comes to my head is that scene in Minority Report that looks like a computer brothel.

Transporters would suck. What would be the point? If you could go anywhere, cultures would completely die out and the world would become one homogeneous society. I guess it would be nice in terms of being able to go somewhere warm really fast in the winter, but that's about it. The fun of visiting new countries would be greatly diminished.

I can think of one other reason it would be good. I would have to spend less on taxis when going out.
