My date is a vegetarian, and I'd prefer a jacket-only place. Any recommendations?

Try Zuni Cafe or Joes Cable Car for a burger, to lure your date to the dark side.

I believe most if not all good places there have a vegetarian selection.

Yes, if you're going to a "jacket-only" place, they will have a veg menu, or will be able to prepare something for her. SF has lots of places: The Ritz's Dining Room is a nice place with consistent food... and the only place I've been to in SF where most of the male diners were in jackets and had pocket squares. Depending on when you're going, you can try for reservations at Gary Danko. The more "romantic" places in SF include Fleur de Lys and Boulevard -- most people like the food there, but I honestly find them a bit overrated. Coi is a new place which has a bit of a pretentious feel, but the food is good. Aqua is also a good choice for a vegetarian, offering up some great seafood, but it's a loud dining room, much like Michael Mina's restaurant. If you want something casual, for dinner or lunch, try Greens -- a nice veg restaurant with a nice view of the Bay.

These are good recommendations. I think the best place mentioned here is Gary Danko - with the best overall food, variety of food, and service.

Coi is great, but it's prix fix, so you may have a problem with the veggie options, but being SF, they may accommodate you and your date.

Millennium restaurant on Geary is really nice - in fact, the nicest Vegetarian place in SF. Highly recommended, you can go to Bourbon and Branch or Rye for a drink afterward.

Personally, I think Greens is over rated.

The restaurant at the St. Regis, Ame is really good too, I think they have veggie but a lot of fish.

Try Raw at fort Mason it's a vegetarian place.

So far as I know, Fleur de Lys is the only jacket-required place left in The City. And I haven't been there in years, so I have no idea if that is even still true.

Cha Cha Cha.

Oops, didn't see that you wanted jacket-only. Still, it's a fun place to grab dinner.

Masa's still requires a jacket, and I believe they have a vegetarian tasting menu. I don't know if FdL still requires one. I cannot think of any others.
