Thanks for saving ******.

In fact I just looked at them again last week at Leffot (my new favourite shoes shop, by the way). I was unimpressed again but would have purchased a pair to get a better opinion through wear. Unfortunatley he had none abailable in my size (same old story!).

I think the finisihng on G&G is about the best it gets for RTW shoes, unfortunately it's the designs and last shapes that leave me cold.

This is curious. You certainly have a wide range of shoes in your collection from conservatively styled lasts and designs, to more sleek and chiseled counterparts. Is it because G&G would be redundant to what you have style wise? Or, assuming you didn't have a particular last and model (that is almost unimagineable), you would pick a brand you have over G&G because you think it is more inspired?

IMHO, for example I think the G&G's smart square last is more elegant than the 888 (I have and admire both) because it is less "blunt" or bottle-nose dolphin-esque, and is just elongated enough to be sleeker. That in itself feels more inspired than the 888. Plus the fit is superb.

I guess it comes down to G&G occupying a space in the middle by offering classic styles on aggressive lasts. I feel that EG does a better job with the classic English models and I feel their range of lasts from 202-888 provides unmatched flexibility. I also feel that Lobb Prestige fills the sleek side of the spectrum a bit better, too. The 8000 and 1105 lasts are, to me, near perfect for sleeker lasts.

i agree with you on the mismatched combo niche G&G tend to fill. i feel the same way about EG and Lobb for those specific points.

but dont you want to obtain one pair of G&G on the basis of their bevelled waist being their trump card beating out all other makers' waists?

almost perfectly understood. What do you mean by "unmatched flexibility?" Flexible as to what it is trying to accomplish with the last-style design?

+2, I have not purchased any G&G yet, but another Corthay is on my list.

Does anyone own a pair of the plain 'oxford' model captoes by G&G? also, do G&G ready to wear shoes retail for $950 at leather soul hawaii? I'm thinking even with a small discount on a pair of lobbs from NM, I'm still way over the price of a pair of captoes from G&G or EG.

They look like they have alot of creases. Is that normal?

I have the Hayes in the Vintage Rioja. I have noted they have creased more than a number of other shoes in my collection.

For that reason, I will probably steer clear of wholecut or smooth vamps...opting instead for a captoe or wingtip.

On those models, creasing seems to stand out much less or is less noticeable.
